–Beyoncé appears on a charity remix of Megan Thee Stallion‘s hit “Savage” and Twitter is losing its mind about her OnlyFans name drop. In the remix, Bey raps: “Hips TikTok when I dance / On that demon time she might start an OnlyFans / Big B and that B stands for bands / If you wanna see some real ass baby here’s your chance”

-Celebrity gossip has been slowwwwww in these times of quarantine, so bless Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik for getting knocked up.

-Meanwhile, Gigi’s ex Tyler Cameron wants the internet to stop saying he’s the father of her baby.

–Joe Jonas says Sophie Turner only agreed to date him on the condition he watch all the Harry Potter movies. Seems reasonable.

–Irrfan Khan has died at 53 following a battle with cancer. You might not know his name, but you’d definitely recognize him. He’s best known for his roles in Slumdog Millionaire, Life of Pi, Jurassic World, and season 3 of In Treatment.

-On a podcast, Katie Couric talked about being uncomfortable when interviewing Denzel Washington in 2004, saying she left “feeling really kind of shaken that he had kind of gone after me in a way that was completely, weirdly uncalled for.” I mean, reading the exchange, it doesn’t sound so bad? He challenged her and then didn’t let her off the hook when she, a white woman, those people‘d him.

-Despite the entire state of California being under stay-at-home orders, Kendall Jenner and Phoenix Suns basketball player Devin Booker decided to go on a road trip.

-The Federal Aviation Administration is looking into a runway incident involving Harrison Ford that occurred at LA’s Hawthorne Airport on April 24. Again celebrities, California’s stay-at-home orders apply to you too.

-The Half Of It, a YA take on Cyrano de Bergerac that debuts on Netflix Friday, is getting really great reviews.

–Alice Wu‘s, the writer-director of The Half Of It, talked to the NYT about the ingenious method she used to overcome writers’ block when completing the screenplay: she wrote a check for $1,000 to the National Rifle Association, a cause she is against. “I gave it to one of my best friends, TJ, who’s a butch firefighter. I gave myself five weeks, and told her, ‘if this first draft is not written, you are sending that check in.’ ”

-Normal People drops on Hulu today. The Ringer says “it’s Twilight for people who are too cynical to get swept away by the bland naiveté of stories like Twilight.”

-Speaking of new TV shows, the embargo lifted today on Ryan Murphy‘s Hollywood and oof, the reviews are baaaaaad. Variety calls it “the first outright dud of his post-Glee career,” The Hollywood Reporter says it’s “frustratingly naive,” and BBC calls it “a disaster.”

-TV super producer Greg Berlanti is donating $1 million to covid Hollywood relief efforts, including $600k to workers on his shows.

–Kanye West is desperate to be recognized as a billionaire.

–Mike Schur opened up about tomorrow night’s Parks & Rec special that doubles as a fundraiser for Feeding America. “The most important theme of the show is: Leslie Knope believes in friendship. She was loyal and friendly and put all her eggs in the power of friendship. It’s about her connecting with people and holding that group of characters together at a time when they’re unable to leave their homes.”

-At least Keith Urban knows he married up.

-The Academy has released new rules: streaming films are eligible for the Oscars, but only for this year. (Last year’s streaming nominees like Marriage Story and The Irishmen had very limited theatrical releases in order to be eligible). They’ve also merged the best sound editing and best sound mixing categories into one.

-Hollywood’s movie system is imploding before our eyes. The new Trolls movie managed to gross $100 million in three weeks as a 48-hour, $20 on-demand rental, and Universal CEO said its success means as soon as theatres reopen they will release films in both formats. That led to AMC saying they will no longer show Universal movies in their theatres. A pissing match between movie studios and theatre owners is the opposite of what that industry needs right now.

–Tom Felton stars as a man who must take a road trip with his estranged sister to fulfill his dead mother’s wishes in the Braking For Whales trailer.

Saoirse Ronan’s New Cover Causes a Stir

-I actually love Saoirse Ronan‘s new cover of Harper’s Bazaar UK (and the inside photo spread is to die for), but I get why people don’t love it. The “spirit of Great Britain” line doesn’t really work for when you’re featuring an Irish actress.

-I dig this Aya Cash interview about moving on from You’re The Worst, her friendship with costar Chris Geere (“Chrissy and I are total opposites in every sense. He’s got all this light, positive energy. Compared to him I’m a f*cking ditch. He likes John Mayer. Oh my God, he loves One Direction. I listen to Perfume Genius, and he always says ‘why do you listen to this sad shit?'”), and her attempts at spon-con (“I knew if you have a certain amount of [Instagram] followers you could get a bed, and I contacted them, you probably know which company I’m talking about, and they were like, No, now it’s 600,000 followers that you need for the bed, and I had like 50-thousand something. I was like, ‘F*ck!'”)

–Zayn Malik and Gigi Hadid broke up again. For now.

–Scarlett Johansson says it’s “useless” to fight back against the deepfake porn that uses her face, which is probably true but deeply depressing.

–Diddy hired his girlfriend a personal trainer, and then reportedly broke up with her due to suspicious that they were hooking up. Maybe this is just karma for implying that your longtime girlfriend needs to get in better shape?

-The CW is moving forward with a Batwoman stand-alone series starring Ruby Rose which kind of surprises me because after she was introduced in this year’s crossover, the buzz about her character seemed to die out. If anything, everyone seemed to be talking about how Tyler Hoechlin deserves his own Superman show.

-Luther’s new season has begun airing in the UK and this one clip makes me want to see it NOW.

-It’s funny; everyone’s talking about how the newly announced Coachella lineup is the weakest one yet, but it’s the first time I’ve seriously considered going back in years. Yeah, the main draws aren’t really headliner caliber (except Ariana Grande) but the mid-level acts are great (Janelle Monáe, Christine and the Queens, Kid Cudi, CHVRCHES, the 1975, Weezer, etc.). Also, the Idris Elba DJ set would be hilarious.

-Meanwhile, Kanye West‘s camp says that he was negotiating to be a Coachella headliner but it fell through over disagreements about the stage design.

-Black Mirror: Bandersnatch star Will Poulter was driven off of Twitter because people are terrible.

-Margot Robbie and Michael B Jordan share notes about acting while “basically naked” in a new interview.

-Speaking of actor on actor interviews, I really liked this one with John Krasinski and Rosamund Pike.

-The Notebook is becoming a Broadway musical.

-2018 felt like a decent year in terms of well-reviewed movies by women filmmakers (Can You Ever Forgive Me?, Destroyer, Private Life, You Were Never Really Here, The Rider, Leave No Trace, etc.). But most women were confined to the indie film world. In fact, the number of women directing top Hollywood films dropped again in 2018, with women directing only 8% of last year’s highest-grossing movies.

-The biggest surprise of this week is that Bumblebee is still holding strong at 93% on Rotten Tomatoes. Is this what happens when you let a woman write a Transformers movie?

-This also surprises me: worldwide, Aquaman has now made more money than Wonder Woman.

-This New York Times article about the exploding popularity of Turkish dramas is certainly making me feel better about my recent TV rabbit holes. They’re so good, but so confusing? Why do they blur out all the alcohol bottles? Why do people say “bon appetit” after they’ve already eaten? What kind of a greeting is “work easy”? I have no idea, but I love it.

–Punisher season 2’s trailer has been released, along with the premiere date (Jan 18). There’s no mention of Karen, so I’m not interested.

-Speaking of upcoming TV, Better Things season 3 starts Feb 28, and Killing Eve season 2 is coming on April 7 (which is wayyyy sooner than anyone expected).

-Fox’s new celebrity talent show The Masked Singer, based on a South Korean show in which famous people wear masks and compete in a singing competition, is a big hit. Getting an impressive 2.9 rating in the A18-49 demo and 9.2M viewers, last night’s ep was the network’s top-rated series launch since Empire four years ago. Critics seem to love it, too.

–Bill Hader broke down in a new interview when talking about the fact that he only spent 5 days with his kids last summer.

-Lifetime’s three-night documentary on R. Kelly is airing this week, and by all accounts it’s a harrowing and explosive look at not only the singer, but his famous friends and enablers.

-I really liked this interview with Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer on the end of Broad City and what’s next for them. (Though I wanted to hear more about the legal issues with creating a season premiere produced in a way that looks like Instagram Stories.)

–Mads Mikkelsen plays a man stranded in after an airplane crash in the Arctic trailer.

 

The Queen Is Paid Less Than The Prince

-Well, this is bullshit. The Crown’s Claire Foy  was paid less than costar Matt Smith in the first two seasons. I get that he was the bigger name when the show first started, but surely they could have re-negotiated after season one when she was clearly the lead character (and the more compelling one). I stopped watching the show early, but everyone I know who hung on longer eventually dropped it because of “too much Philip.”

–Lynda Carter opened up about her own #MeToo stories, and one involved a camera man on the Wonder Woman set drilling a hole into her dressing room wall so he could spy on her. Jesus.

-An HBO exec says the network’s budget is being “raped” by Game of Thrones and Big Little Lies. She’s since apologized for her “poor choice of words.” Ya think?

-Speaking of HBO, Nicole Kidman is reteaming with David E. Kelley for another book adaptation.

-When asked about a Buffy revival, the Fox TV boss said “When Joss Whedon decides it’s time, we’ll do it.”  So, that’s a “never” then.

–Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik  have split after two years of dating. On the plus side, does this mean I don’t need to learn who either of those people are?!

–Paul Feig says his production company is officially adopting an inclusion rider for all their film and TV productions moving forward.

–Matt Damon and Ben Affleck‘s production company made a similar announcement, which everyone immediately side-eyed.

–Oprah, Reese Witherspoon and Mindy Kaling crashed A Wrinkle in Time screening in costume with James Corden.

-I have a bunch of X Files episodes piled up on my DVR, but Scully’s “are you kidding me?” at the end of this clip makes me want to watch all of them right now.

-I’m so glad that Love, Simon is getting such great reviews. I adored that book.

-This SXSW movie review is bizarre. Why does he keep calling the female characters “sluts”. How did this make it into print?!

-A new trailer dropped for Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them: Crimes Of Grindelwald.  I want to be here for Jude Law as Dumbledore but ugh, Johnny Depp.
