Florence Pugh Defends Relationship with Zach Braff

Florence Pugh is fighting back after she posted a birthday message for Zach Braff and people immediately commented on their age differene: “I do not need you to tell me who I should or should not love and I would never in my life — ever ever — tell anyone who they can or cannot love. It is not your place, and really it has nothing to do with you.”

Lady Gaga covers InStyle and says she’s “very excited” to start a family: “I look forward to being a mom. Isn’t it incredible what we can do? We can hold a human inside and grow it. Then it comes out, and it’s our job to keep it alive. It’s so funny — everyone works out of my house every day. When they come in, I always say, ‘Welcome to the Womb!'”

Cardi B is partnering with Fashion Nova to give away $1,000 every hour until May 20.

-Also, Halsey donated 100,000 face masks to four California hospitals.

George and Amal Clooney donated more than $1 million to coronavirus relief efforts.

Jimmy Fallon, Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig star in a quarantine soap opera skit titled The Longest Days of Our Lives.

Jake Gyllenhaal says Heath Ledger refused to do the opening at the 2007 Academy Awards because producers wanted to stick in a homophobic joke about Brokeback Mountain. “I was sort of at the time, ‘Oh, okay… whatever.’ I’m always like, ‘It’s all in good fun.’ And Heath said, ‘It’s not a joke to me – I don’t want to make any jokes about it.’ That’s the thing I loved about Heath. He would never joke. Someone wanted to make a joke about the story or whatever, he was like, ‘No. This is about love. Like, that’s it, man. Like, no.’ ”

Jodie Turner-Smith is my favourite person on Twitter because of stuff like this.

Justin Timberlake did Hot Ones. I couldn’t make it through the whole interview because there’s no way I can suffer through a half hour of JT, but good for him for giving Nardwuar a shout out.

-SNL is returning with a new, remotely produced episode this Saturday.

Nicole Richie was on Naomi Campbell’s daily “talk show” and she reminisced about sticking her hand up a cow’s butt during an episode of The Simple Life: “The pressure of going inside the cow? That feeling will never leave my body.”

-Exes Demi Moore and Bruce Willis are taking conscious uncoupling to the next level: they’re self-isolating together with their kids.

-There’s a new Gourmet Makes! Claire tries to recreate Cadbury creme eggs.

Jimmy Fallon gets introspective in a new Vulture interview and says it will be a long, long, long time before The Tonight Show could be the same again. And it may never be.

Wills and Kate hired the Sussexs’ former Instagram manager.

The Strokes are dropping a new album tomorrow and early reviews are glowing.

-The New Yorker profiled Fran Lebowitz on how she’s been handling social distancing and every quote is a gem. My favourite: “I hate to cook. I find it incredibly tedious. Last night, I was peeling a cucumber and I was infuriated. Like, why am I peeling this cucumber? Why am I not in a restaurant, where they know how to peel a cucumber, and where I’m not doing it?” My other favourite: “Until this happened I was one of the few people still shaking hands, because people were hugging….I was so shocked when hugging started. I thought, Are you out of your mind? I would put my hand out and people would go in for a hug. This is when someone’s introducing you to someone. I think it would be great if hugging stopped. Hugging apparently is less virus-producing than shaking hands, but hugging is its own kind of contagion.” I feel seen.

-I missed the news that Leighton Meester and Adam Brody are expecting their second child. Yay for them!

Joaquin Phoenix‘s GQ cover story is just a mashup of a bunch of old interviews. I know everyone’s social distancing but phoners are still a thing.

-Modern Family bowed out last night with its highest ratings in three years.

-I’ve downloaded Quibi but haven’t really watched anything yet. I have, however, listened to the Extra Hot Great podcast and this rant about Liam Hemsworth‘s new show, Most Dangerous Game.

-The trailer for Netflix’s The Half of It looks wonderful. A straight-A student who’s coming to terms with the fact she’s gay becomes best friends with a popular jock.

Janelle Monae Covers InStyle

Janelle-Monae-InStyle-August-2019

-I love the subscribers’ edition of Janelle Monae’s InStyle cover.  The interview is predictably fun too, in which she drops bon mots such as “I speak android, which is helpful for the future, since we will be merging” and “If my mother had let me have a vibrator at a young age to be in touch with my body more, I could have saved myself from so many poor decisions.”

-When I first heard about Scarlett Johansson‘s latest comments (‘I should be allowed to play any person, or any tree, or any animal’) I took it with a grain of salt because the quotes came from a longer fashion interview and were then repackaged by the Daily Mail, which tends to present out-of-context soundbites for clickbait. But then I read her clarification and nope, she just doesn’t get it. If she really cares about telling these kinds of stories, instead of playing the lead in a movie about a trans man, why wouldn’t she come on as a producer and take a smaller part, using her name/clout to get the film made? Instead, she faced backlash about playing the lead, the movie now appears to be buried, and she’s out here talking about political correctness getting in the way of art.

-I have watched/analyzed this video of Meghan Markle meeting Beyonce and Jay Z way, way too many times. Jay looking like he’s afraid to fully hug her while his wife is watching slays me every time…

-Well, this is a swerve. Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach will co-write a Barbie pic starring Margot Robbie.

-I don’t know what app Channing Tatum is talking about, but I love that he’s so chill about being in therapy.

-And so it continues: Kim Cattrall says she’ll never do another Sex and the City movie: “It’s a no from me. You learn lessons in life and my lesson is to do work with good people and try and make it fun.”

-I didn’t know that Zach Braff is dating Florence Pugh but yeah, that tracks.

Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello are still … doing whatever it is they’re doing.

-Indie film The Farewell, which stars Awkwafina and was a hit at Sundance, already surpassed Avengers: Endgame for biggest theater average of the year, and it’s in limited release.

-All 8 episodes for the Veronica Mars revival drop this weekend and the reviews are mostly positive — but there seems to be a big, dark plot twist in the finale that has critics divided.  They better not harm a hair on Logan’s head!!

-I’m not sure about the story floating around that Captain Marvel’s Lashana Lynch will play 007. The sourcing for the original article is shaky, and it just says that Lynch plays a new agent who inherits Bond’s codename, not that she’ll be the main character. I’d love her to take over the franchise but I don’t want to get my hopes up until a more credible source confirms it.

-The Russos are teasing some kind of Community thing at this weekend’s Comic-Con for the show’s 10-year anniversary.

-Oof, the reviews for The Lion King are roughhhhhhh.

Bradley Cooper and Laura Dern had lunch, and we have questions.

-Speaking of Dern, there’s only one more episode left this season in Big Little Lies and everyone’s wondering if it will be able to save the nonsensical season.

-Here’s the first trailer for On Becoming a God in Central Florida, Showtime’s dark comedy series starring Kirsten Dunst.

Fergie and Josh Duhamel Split After 8 years of Marriage

-There were some blind items floating around a while ago that I didn’t want to believe, but here we are: Fergie and Josh Duhamel released a statement saying “with absolute love and respect we decided to separate as a couple earlier this year.”

-Don’t tell me celebrities can’t lock their sh*t down when they really want to. Selena Gomez just revealed she’s been quiet this summer because she had a kidney transplant(!). Her pal and donor Francia Raisa made a touching post about the experience, saying “I am beyond grateful that God would trust me with something that not only saved a life, but changed mine in the process.”

-God bless Jennifer Garner for posting this video of her high on novocaine and crying about Hamilton songs. Best “David After Dentist” sequel ever.

Jessica Biel entered the Ellen Show by doing the Dirty Dancing routine (complete with a perfectly executed lift) and I’ve never liked her more.

-Oh wait — Jessica‘s restaurant might have withheld tips from their servers. And I’m back!

-The new promo for The Good Place has clips from the first season and now I’m wondering how I missed the big twist. In retrospect, it was so obvious! God, I love that show.

Zach Braff is the new illegal face of penis enhancement pills in Ukraine, and it doesn’t seem to bother him at all.

-Delete your fanfic! Zayn Malik just revealed that he and Harry Styles weren’t actually BFFs at all. “To be honest, I never really spoke to Harry even when I was in the band. So I didn’t really expect that much of a relationship with him when I left. And I haven’t [had one] to be honest.”

-Adam Levine and Behati Prinsloo are breeding again.

Mandy Moore‘s This Is Us costars spoiled her engagement news. And not even her big costars. Just the guys who play Toby and Miguel. Tsk tsk.

Reese Witherspoon no longer sounds super hopeful that a second season of Big Little Lies will happen and as much as I loved that show, I’m totally ok with that.

-Sounds like Heidi Klum and her boyfriend Vito Schnabel are dunzo. (But “taking time apart right now” is a nice spin.)

-Man, I love that there are actual think pieces being written about why Arrow shouldn’t do a BLM episode.

-You know movieland is bleak when even Jim Carrey is heading to TV.

-According to Page Six, Drake was spotted in his hometown of Toronto on Monday night “looking cozy” with The Florida Project’s Bria Vinaite. I don’t believe it.  Yeah, they posed for a pic together but he was supposedly spotted with a model. And from what I saw of Bria at her movie’s premiere, he couldn’t handle her.

-I really hope the HBO exec is lying when he says he knows who’s going to end up on the Iron Throne on GoT. Isn’t the whole point of the show about breaking the wheel?!

-You know what I’m weirdly good at? Axe throwing. I’ve done it three times now and I’m at the point where an axe is gonna be the first thing I grab when the zombie apocalypse strikes. You know who’s not so good at axe throwing? Jennifer Lawrence.

Jennifer Lawrence plays a ballerina who becomes a Russian assassin after suffering from a career-altering injury in the Red Sparrow trailer. So basically, it’s the Black Widow standalone movie we all wanted, without the Marvel rights?
