Norm Macdonald Has Passed Away

-Saddened and stunned by the news that Norm MacDonald has died at 61 “after a long and private battle with cancer.” There are a lot of clips floating around this afternoon, but the ones I keep seeing over and over are his moth joke, and his roast of Bob Sagat.

-Stars brought the fashion drama to the Met Gala last night. My faves were Tessa ThompsonElliot Page, and Lupita Nyong’o. See every single look here.

Keke Palmer killed it as the live stream host.

-It freaks me out how completely unrecognizable Hailee Steinfeld was at the gala.

Cara Delevingne is getting some heat because neither she nor the designer credited the person who coined “Peg the Patriarchy.”

Channing Tatum and Zoe Kravitz didn’t pose on the Met red carpet together, but they did leave together.

Nick Minaj tweeted her reason for not going to her 22 million followers: “They want you to get vaccinated for the Met. if I get vaccinated it won’t for the Met. It’ll be once I feel I’ve done enough research. I’m working on that now.” I would love to know what kind of research vax-hesitant people are doing that hasn’t already been done by the world’s leading experts and doctors.

-Congrats to Kate Hudson, who just got engaged and was not already engaged like I thought she was.

Jennifer Aniston was on Kimmel last night and said she’s skipping the Emmys because of covid. “This is still a big step for me just to be here. It’s just baby steps.”

Andrew Garfield told Jessica Chastain that their promotional campaign for The Eyes of Tammy Faye will be a ‘no-licky-pitty zone‘ after her viral red carpet moment with Oscar Isaac in Venice. (I saw the film last night and while I was a bit lukewarm on it, Chastain is for sure a lock for an Oscar nod.)

Alanis Morissette does not support the documentary about her that is currently at TIFF and will soon be on HBO. “I agreed to participate in a piece about the celebration of Jagged Little Pill’s 25th anniversary and was interviewed during a very vulnerable time (while in the midst of my third postpartum depression during lockdown)…I was lulled into a false sense of security and their salacious agenda became apparent immediately upon my seeing the first cut of the film.”

-Man, I’m going to have to watch the leggings doc on Amazon that everyone’s talking about, aren’t I?

-Dune has released another featurette ahead of its opening.

Regina Hall’s Birthday Anthem

Regina Hall turned 50 and celebrated by posting a hilarious song about it.

More details from FKA twigs‘s lawsuit against Shia LaBeouf have emerged, and her accusations are chilling. She says when filming The Tax Collector, he got so into his gangster character he drove around Los Angeles, shooting stray dogs dead so that he could get into the “mindset” of a killer.
She claims he also demanded she sleep naked and forced her to watch documentaries about murdered women before going to bed. He apparently was paranoid and suffered recurring delusions about gang members breaking into his home, so he slept with a loaded rifle at their bedside, but insisted on keeping the front door unlocked. She also says he would count the number of kisses she’d give him on any given day, and berate her if it wasn’t enough, and he knowingly infected her with an STD. Meanwhile, rumors surrounding LaBeouf’s alleged domestic violence have existed for years.

-Also, Sia tweeted her support for FKA twigs and said ‘pathological liar’ Shia LaBeouf ‘conned’ her into an ‘adulterous relationship.’“I’m sorry @Sia. This reinforces why I had to publicly share my experience. we need to support each other,” FKA responded.

Meghan Markle has made her first private investment — a company that counts Oprah amongst its fans.

Snoop Dogg doesn’t agree with Cardi B’s “Wap,” and says women should have privacy and leave things to the imagination. This is the guy whose debut album was called Doggystyle, right?!

Janelle Monae wants to work with the Nolan brothers. Maybe? It’s confusing.

-Say what you will about Christopher Nolan‘s stance on the Warner movies streaming on HBO Max, but he’s not wrong when he talks about how the new deal screws over unions.

-This is a very good recap of the best TV of the year. 2020 feels so long that I forgot most of these gems aired this year. Bojack Horseman’s series finale feels like decades ago.

Dolly Parton saved her 9-year-old Netflix movie co-star from an oncoming car. Is there nothing she can’t do??!

Nancy Meyers says she’s done making movies because they went from stressful but fun to just stressful. “Once superhero movies really became the only movie studios cared about, the experience of making a movie like mine changed. I remember when I finished The Intern, I thought, ‘I think this is it.'”

-Watch this video of Little Women’s Timothée Chalamet and Louis Garrel speaking French. For science.

-It’s my favourite day on Twitter: when everyone submits the best TV line of the year. (I’m not sure anything beats “Kneel,” but “For the sake of your poor ol’ dad, keep the door open three inches,” and NoHoHank’s response to Barry’s “Am I evil?” question: “Oh my God! I mean. Absolutely! Do I not tell you that enough? You are like the most evil guy I know, man!”)

-Speaking of Barry, Henry Winkler says he regularly writes fan letters to celebrities. “I think if you see something and it is so incredible, if you see a performance like Sam Rockwell as Fosse, you have to write a letter. If you see Patricia Arquette in Escape at Dannemor, you have to write a letter.”

Kim Kardashian is getting called out for blackface thanks to her new fashion photo shoot.

-TVLine named Unbelievable’s Merritt Wever, Kaitlyn Dever and Toni Collette and the performers of the year and I fully support this. Not only were all three great in the Netflix show, Dever had Booksmart, Wever had Marriage Story and Collette had Knives Out.

-This is a good interview with Star Wars’ Kelly Marie Tran and Naomi Ackie, in which they discuss their own privilege, pay equality, and tarot cards.

Zoë Kravitz stars in the first trailer for Hulu’s High Fidelity. Oh yeah, I’ll be watching this.

-CBS released a new trailer for Star Trek: Picard.

-The best thing about the Cats movie is how savage critics are in their reviews. This collection made me laugh.

-Also making me laugh: this ranking of the songs in the movie.

Jennifer Hudson transforms into Aretha Franklin in the trailer for Respect. This should help to get the stink of Cats off her…

-Force Majeure was a brutal, devastatingly funny and gutting examination of a marriage forever changed because of a split-second decision. The American remake, starring Will Ferrell and Julia Louis-Dreyfus, looks…silly?

-Speaking of movies that feel like we’ve already seen better versions of, Amy Adams and Julianne Moore star in the thriller The Woman In The Window.
