Blake Lively is Powerful

blake-lively-variety

-Variety is launching its Power of Women NY issue tomorrow, and the covers feature Chelsea Clinton, Shari Redstone, Audra McDonald, Jessica Chastain, Gayle King and…Blake Lively? One of these things is not like the other.

-Despite those reconciliation rumours, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner have officially filed for divorce two years after splitting. Once again, their timing was impeccable.

Charlie Hunnam doesn’t have good memories of his”terrible, painful, expensive” first marriage at 18.

Amy Poehler, Sarah Silverman and Aziz Ansari reflect on the legacy of Harris Wittels in this heartbreaking article.

Robert Downey Jr. looks like an existentially confused Easter bunny and I’m here for it.

-I love this video of Reese Witherspoon calling out paps for their crappy driving. The arm pat at the end with the “you know better; I’ve known you forever, come on!” is peak Reese.

-Speaking of paps, this is an interesting look at how they get shots on closed movie sets.

-Brace yourself: Scarlett Johansson said that running for political office “could be interesting.”

Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys continue to be my favourite celebrity couple because of stuff like this.

-EW is ranking the shows in danger of being cancelled and I’m really hoping they’re wrong about Pitch.

Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper are filming A Star Is Born scenes using the Coachella stages this week. (Is he wearing a fake nose?)

Drew Barrymore remembers the way Coachella used to be. I miss those days.

-I don’t go to Coachella anymore (’cause I’m too old for that shit) but I was visiting my brother and we ended up catching a lot of the live-stream. Despite Radiohead’s technical difficulties at the beginning, the last five songs (including Creep!) were perfection. I also really dug Glass Animals, Two Door Cinema Club, The Head and the Heart, Phantogram, Bon Iver, Little Dragon, Big Gigantic and Schoolboy Q.

-Coachella is always lit when it comes to spotting new celebrity couples. Chris Pine and Sofia Boutella were photographed holding hands, while Orlando Bloom made out with a model while his reported new girlfriend Nina Dobrev looked on. (Sigh. I love her but her relationship choices give me heartburn…)

-This takedown of Vin Diesel is making my Monday more tolerable.

Jay Pharoah says he was almost fired from SNL for demanding black female cast members.

-I finally finished 13 Reasons Why and I’m not sure that the ending lived up to the hype, especially because it became increasingly difficult to understand why the kids were covering it up.

-Good for Prince Harry for sharing his struggles and helping to normalize mental health treatment.

-Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights was not only a terrible movie, it was a terrible set to work on.

-Wait, is Shonda Rhimes creating her own Lenny-ish site? Sign me up!

Tyrese Gibson has apologized for those “horrible” comments about “promiscuous women”… this time.

-This is an interesting take about why it’s not always great when Netflix buys a movie you really want to see. I don’t disagree that they bury their new releases. There’s a new Joe Swanberg/Jake Johnson movie called Win It All that I loved, but it just hit Netflix and I’ve heard nothing about it. Like, crickets.

Michelle Pfeiffer is stepping back into the spotlight and I can’t wait.

-The teaser for Star Wars: The Last Jedi is very pretty.

Idris Elba Talks Directing, DJing

idris-elba-interview

Jon Favreau talks to Idris Elba in the new issue of Interview. It’s a good chat about actors turned directors (except for the part where he talks about DJing, an aspect about him I prefer to repress). Also, there’s random Ben Affleck shout outs, so that’s something.

-Wayment. You’re all surprised that Taylor Swift hired a pro photographer to document her 4th of July party? Then you haven’t been paying attention.

Sarah Silverman went to the doctor for a sore throat and ended up spending 5 days in the ICU.

Leonardo DiCaprio is dating another blonde model but we probably shouldn’t bother learning her name either.

-The bloopers from Matthew Rhys and Matthew Goode’s The Wine Show are such a goddamn delight  I can’t even.

-Sleepy Hollow is looking for a new “Scully-esque” female lead. Burn it all down!

-It took 50 years and an alternate universe, but Sulu is gay in Star Trek Beyond.

Fine sentiment, Mischa Barton, but perhaps attaching it to a pic of you in a bikini on a yacht isn’t exactly the best way to support Black Lives Matter.

-This is perfect: what if that Robbie Margot VF interview was about Benedict Cumberbatch instead?

-Important: there’s a new teaser video for You’re the Worst Season 3. Also important: I HAVE HER SUNGLASSES!

-I love Bill Simmons and everything he did with Grantland, but this is not an inaccurate description of Any Given Wednesday. Also, when is he going to have his first female guest already?

-In no way celebrity related, but this is clearly the best thing on the internet today. (Read the thread, and just keep hitting ‘show more’. Cause it gets so good.)

-This description of Zoe Saldana’s diet makes me so sad, but as someone who once stood next to her in an elevator and felt like I was a shapeless blob next to her, it doesn’t surprise me.

-And this is why I’ve stopped reading posts on Stephen Amell’s Facebook page, especially ones about his family. His fans are cray. (I mean, I’m still gonna watch the workout videos though, cause come on.)

This article made me feel really bad for Bryan Cranston. And then I remembered he’s Bryan Cranston and is probably going to be just fine.

Nick Jonas is in a freaky, slap-happy fraternity in this trailer for Goat.

-Here is the trailer for My Last Days, a new doc from Jane the Virgin’s Justin Baldoni that follows six people facing terminal illness. Excuse me for a sec; my eyes are drowning.

-I’m not sure why all of Anna Kendrick‘s movie choices recently seem to be about needing a date for a wedding,  but at least the trailer for Table 19 looks cute.

Best and Worst Dresses at 2016 SAG Awards

There were a lot of messes on the 2106 SAG Awards red carpet, but there were some winners too. Here are Nicole and my picks for best and worst dressed of the night:

BEST

After a big misstep with the white apron dress, Alicia Vikander‘s Louis Vuitton sequinned column dress is two in a row for gorgeous gowns this season. Her shiny, straight hair compliments the dress and simple bronze makeup nails the look. She’s probably my favourite of the night, especially when she turned on the red carpet and I saw the thigh-high slit. -Nicole

I have never, ever liked anything Gaby Hoffman has worn on a red carpet – but that changed tonight. Her Rachel Comey dress was weird and unique and super flattering. Add the punk hair (with visible greys!) and she was a total boss. She also recycled her shoes from a recent event.  I adore her. -Jen

I have loved Rachel McAdams‘ choices this season and her SAG Elie Saab gown is classically stunning. I do wish she’d worn a brighter lip but the un-fussy hair balanced out the structured dress. It’s super well done and the second time she’s been on my best list this season and impressively for a very different dress. -Nicole

Once again, Queen Latifah owns the red carpet. She’s the picture of simple elegance in a shimmery Michael Costello gown. -Jen

I’m not usually a fan of lace dresses, but Naomi Watts in blue Burberry is a vision. (And I’m not just saying that because it’s a longer version of an H&M dress that I’ve had for like, 8 years and every time I wear it someone compliments me on it – including Gillian Anderson!) -Jen

WORST

Dresses from this Gucci collection have turned up all over lately, including Dakota Johnson on The Tonight Show. I keep thinking that these dresses look as though they have walked out of a cartoon and Nicole Kidman‘s is no exception. The tiers are too fussy. -Nicole

Pairing a painful-looking topknot with a cheap-looking Romana Kevesa dress (featuring a figure skating outfitish mesh panel) was more than enough to secure Kaley Cuoco a spot on our worst dressed list. -Jen

I bemoaned the lack of lip colour tonight and I’ll give Quantico’s Priyanka Chopra props for her gorgeous lipstick. But this pink confection of a pouffy Monique Lhuillier dress is not my favourite. It’s very prom-y and does not do this beautiful girl justice. -Nicole

I don’t understand how stars can end up on a red carpet in an ill-fitting, poorly tailored dress. Sarah Silverman‘s Vivenne Westwood dress is the wrong colour, the wrong hemline, and worst of all, the wrong fit. (Gwedoline Christie‘s dress had the same issue.) -Jen

I saw Brie Larson‘s Versace dress from behind and thought the orange suspender detail was cute. Unfortunately the front was so fussy and busy that it all fell apart for me. She also looks so, so painfully thin. I’ve not been sold on Brie’s choices this awards season so here’s hoping she pulls it together for the big one.  -Nicole
