Jennifer Lopez Gets Naked For Her New Song

–Jennifer Lopez showed off the cover art for her latest single, and it’s a pic of her in the buff shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott. I didn’t think singles got the cover art treatment, but if I looked like this I guess I’d be looking for any excuse, too.

–The Weeknd called the Grammys out for his nomination shut out (and Nicki Minaj backed him up). There’s some speculation that the Grammys wanted him to perform on their show and not the Super Bowl Halftime Show, which airs just a week later, but the Academy CEO insists that’s not the case.

–Chris Evans posted a video of himself playing piano while wearing a chunky sweater. Vulture says he’s “adopting the persona of a jock who’s having an emotional crisis in the third act of a high-school movie” but I’m not complaining.

-In a deeply personal NYT op-ed, Meghan Markle revealed she suffered a miscarriage in July. Not only is her op-ed incredibly moving, it helps to break down the stigma surrounding talking about miscarriages. I didn’t realize until I started doing some social media work for a fertility clinic that 1 in 4 pregnancies end in miscarriage. That’s an insane stat, and people rarely talk about it. Besides it being very well-written, I also liked how her essay clearly positions her as a hands-on mom, with all the talk of diaper changes and picking up crayons and socks.

–Christina Perri also revealed she and husband have lost their baby girl in a stillbirth.

–Prince Charles and Camilla both deactivated the replies on their tweets, and there’s speculation it’s because of the heat they’re getting from their depiction on this season of The Crown. The show truly has given up on engendering any audience sympathy for him in these new episodes.

-Cdn gossip columnist Shinan Govani tweeted about the Jessica Mulroney story in Page Six, and just now tweeted an apology to her “as requested“. Well.

-The NYT’s list of the 25 greatest actors of the 21st century (so far) caused a bit of debate on Twitter. There are certainly some snubs but I like how diverse it is. I especially appreciate the callout for Melissa McCarthy in Spy.

–Timothée Chalamet, Jason Bateman and Kristen Wiig are set to host the remaining SNL episodes of the year. Morgan Wallen will also get a second chance at being a musical guest.

-The cast of the 90210 reboot got together to reminisce about their behind-the-scenes drama. AnnaLynne McCord admitted to the rumoured tension with Shenae Grimes Beech: “I wanted to strangle that chick. I’m so grateful that in the last 24 hours of [shooting] 90210, Shenae and I fully repaired our relationship issues. I ended up at her wedding in England!”

-As if his album documentary In Wonder on Netflix wasn’t enough, Shawn Mendes surprise-dropped a second film this week — this one a concert film.

-Meanwhile, Shawn shared his view of his Toronto condo in his Netflix film, and the scene is agonizingly familiar to anyone who lives here.

-I follow a lot of romance writers on Twitter for some reason, and what they’ve been doing to mobilize voters in solidarity with Stacey Abrams has been nothing short of remarkable.

-Speaking of people doing good, Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively have donated $500,000 to Covenant House in Vancouver and Toronto.

-The trailer for the live-action Clifford the Big Red Dog debuted by Paramount Pictures today and everyone is freaked out by how sick the dog looks.

-The trailer for Life In A Year, starring Cara Delevingne and Jaden Smith, has dropped. These “sick-lit” dramas are never going away, huh?

 

Matthew McConaughey’s a Family Man for People

–Matthew McConaughey is promoting his new memoir, but the interviews he’s giving aren’t making me want to rush out and buy it. On parenthood, he tells People “The only thing I ever knew I wanted to be was a father. And it’s remained the pinnacle for me. Being a dad was always my only dream. I can’t think of anything being more important” and says of his marriage to Camila Alves: “I can tell you this: I’m happy and confident to say our kids do not question the love we have in our family”. Look man, ya gotta give us something more, especially because Mariah Carey just delivered such juiciness.

-I see we’re at that tedious point of the gossip cycle where every recent interview with Lily James is being combed over for clues to her relationship with Dominic West. Goodie.

-Meanwhile, West’s camp is trying to spin it that he’s just a big teddy bear who likes to get touchy-feely with his friends. Mmmhmmm.

–Bella Hadid is dating Jack Nicholson’s grandson and everyone’s saying he looks like John Mayer, but I’m seeing Billie Joe Armstrong?

-Despite the TV industry being awash in “un-renewals” for shows we actually want to come back, they keep reviving shows no one wants. Case in point: Dexter is coming back, with Michael C. Hall reprising the main role.

-Also, as soon as the news broke, a writer on the original series tweeted: “That time I was on a show with a male lead and I’d recommended 2 women directors for upcoming episodes and the showrunner never responded so I mentioned it again and he literally screamed at me, ‘A WOMAN WILL NEVER DIRECT THIS SHOW, OKAY?'”

-Speaking of reboots, one of the stars of the new Charmed show, Sarah Jeffery, criticized Holly Marie Combs and Rose McGowan of the original series for publicly disparaging the new version. Combs then responded and it’s, um, not great.  Meanwhile, Jeffery says Charmed OG Shannen Doherty has been nothing but kind.

-A wave of stars quit the Bon Appetit Test Kitchen earlier this year after reckoning with racism, pay disparity, and a toxic work culture. Now there’s a trailer featuring a lot of new faces.

-Meanwhile, former Test Kitchen star Sohla El-Waylly was interviewed by E. Alex Jung and the result is a scorcher of a profile.  “The fact is Brad [Leone]’s show did do very well. For some reason, people like watching a big dumb white guy. But why? What does that say about the audience? Why do you want to watch this incompetent white man when we have one in the fucking Oval Office?”

-This is a great profile on Pedro Pascal, who says to play the villain in Wonder Woman 1984 he turned his script into a pop-art scrapbook. One page features Max surrounded by text bubbles into which he wrote over and over again, ‘You are a f*cking piece of shit’.

-Here’s the first trailer for This Is Us’ two-hour season premiere, which airs Oct 27.

–Cardi B accidentally shared a topless photo on Instagram, and doesn’t seem to bothered by it: “It is what it is. S–t happens. F–k it, it’s not even the first time. I mean, I used to f—ing be a stripper so whatever. Ay, Dios mío.”

-Meanwhile, there’s talk that Cardi and Nicki Minaj are putting their beef behind them and coming together for a collab. This is the miracle 2020 needs!

-Also something we need: Ariana Grande‘s next album, which she says is coming this month.

–James Van Der Beek took to Instagram to explain why he packed up his family and moved to Texas: “In the last ten months, we’ve had two late-term pregnancy losses, each of which put @vanderkimberly in the hospital, we spent Christmas break thinking she had a tumor (the doctor was wrong, thank god), a business colleague I hired hijacked the project and stabbed me in the back, I was prematurely booted off a reality dancing show I was favored to win in front of the whole world, and my mom died.” Yeah, that’ll do it.

–Cate Blanchett interviewed her idol, photographer Gregory Crewdson, about his latest exhibit, which blends the nostalgia of an Edward Hopper painting with some of America’s thorniest issues.

–Jason Momoa is back in Toronto shooting his Apple show and I love that sightings of him are all over social.

–Tessa Thompson and Nnamdi Asomugha star in the new trailer for Amazon’s Christmas romance Sylvie’s Love. This was a huge hit at Sundance so I’m very happy it’ll be streaming instead of at theatres.

-The trailer for Hillbilly Elegy starring Amy Adams and Glenn Close dropped today, and Twitter was quick to eviscerate it, calling it “conservative poverty porn” and comparing it to indie film spoofs.

–Mary J Blige looks amazing in Garage magazine. She says in the interview: “What propels me is being able to get through the hard times, and rejoicing when something major happens. It’s not just about making it through, but coming out strong. Fitter, better, and stronger.”

-Poor Chrissy Teigen and John Legend. I’m horrified by all the flak she’s getting about sharing details about her miscarriage online. It happens to 1 in 4 pregnancies and there’s still such a stigma about talking about it. Most celebs only share sanitized, idealized peeks into their fabulous lives. What she’s doing right now is heroic, and all the haters and conspiracy wackos who are bullying her today are a disgrace.

–This thread from a writer who once did a cover story on Paul Rudd makes me want to spend the day with Paul Rudd (more so than usual).

–Hugh Jackman wears nothing but boots in this cheeky new commercial.

–Michaela Coel and Donald Glover interview each other in GQ, and Glover reveals the birth of his third son with partner Michelle White.

-Congrats to Nicki Minaj, who welcomed her first child yesterday.

–Chris Rock told Ellen Degeneres that Dave Chappelle’s live “Summer Camp” shows featured a lot of weed and mushrooms. “Tiffany Haddish drank the mushroom tea and cut her hair the next day. I know she likes to act like, ‘Oooh, Common told me he loved me with no hair.’ No no, it was the mushroom tea talking.”

–Charlie Carver, who’s been in Teen Wolf and Desperate Housewives, says a gay man who he’d worked with previously slapped him at an Emmy party in 2015 for being too gay around “people in the business.”

–Fleetwood Mac is seeing a huge boost in sales after a TikTok of a guy on a skateboard drinking cranberry juice and singing “Dreams” went viral.

-This is an interesting piece on how Amazon’s Utopia, which stars John Cusack and Rainn Wilson, shouldn’t have been released in 2020 due to its pandemic-related conspiracy theories and anti-vax bent. I didn’t even give it a shot after TV critic Alan Sepinwall tweeted that he’d “tapped out after 3 fetishistically violent eps.” Between this, The Boys, Lovecraft Country and the new season of Fargo, TV right now feels ultra violent and gory, and I have no desire to watch any of it.

-Just because 2020 can’t get any weirder, Cameron Diaz‘s 2011 film Bad Teacher is the top movie on Netflix.

-Universes colliding: Jamie Foxx, who played Electro in an Andrew Garfield-led Spider-Man movie, is back as the classic villain in the latest Spider-Man sequel, starring Tom Holland.

–Lenny Kravitz covers a lot of ground in his upcoming memoir — but not the 2015 performance where we accidentally saw his junk.
