Angelina Jolie Breaks Instagram Records

-I wondered if Angelina Jolie‘s decision to join Instagram was tied to her Marvel contract, but sources say she was compelled to join and speak out about what’s happening in Afghanistan. In her first post, she shared a letter she was sent from a teenage Afghan girl.

-Another day, another adorable set of photos of Channing Tatum and Zoe Kravitz hanging out in NYC. Ok, now that it seems like they really are together I want to wrap them in bubblewrap and make everyone leave them alone.

Kylie Jenner is pregnant — she’s expecting her second child with Travis Scott.

-So, it happened. Mike Richards quit Jeopardy after his first day of taping following Ringer’s explosive report and rumblings that Sony was unimpressed. When I say he quit Jeopardy though, I only mean his new hosting gig. He’s still an executive producer. I can’t imagine what it must be like to work there now (or what the next host will deal with). According to the NYT, staff aired grievances at meeting on Thursday, while Ken Jennings and Buzzy Cohen were not allowed to watch the in-studio taping and were told that Richards was too nervous about their presence.

-Meanwhile, The Ringer’s Claire McNear talked about how her story came together, the response she received, and what she predicts comes next.

Ryan Reynolds tweeted his support for Levar Burton to take over hosting, bringing up the fan campaign that got him cast as Deadpool.

-The woman who was assaulted by Nicki Minaj’s husband is speaking out and taking new legal action after saying she’s experienced several months of alleged harassment, threats and intimidation from Minaj, her husband and their associates.

-There were some reports this week that Britney Spears had secretly married and divorced her then-fiancé and former agent Jason Trawick in 2012. The speculation surfaced when her conservatorship court filings included an expense of $9,150 for a lawyer “Consultation on Dissolution of Marriage,” but the most likely explanation is that it was a meeting about a prenup.

-Even though Johnny Depp lost his defamation suit in the UK, a Virginia judge has ruled that he can file a separate suit against Amber Heard in the US.

Lizzo says she stopped wearing deodorant. Celebrities, you continue to have the option to not tell us things! We would never know and everyone could just go on living their lives.

-There’s a bit of a backlash to Ted Lasso happening right now that I find both predictable and exhausting. I agree with both this take and this review — but I just want to keep liking it.

-I’ve never seen this clip of Will Smith talking about how he passed on playing Neo in The Matrix because the Wachowskis’ pitch was awful. “As it turns out, they’re geniuses. But there’s a fine line in a pitch meeting between genius and what I experienced in the meeting.”

Mindy Kaling says that a lot of what she writes about is informed by a “devastating” remark about her weight that a fellow writer said to her when she was 25 and on The Office.

-Shadow and Bone star Ben Barnes celebrated his 40th birthday by announcing a debut album.

-This is an interesting look at how TV’s shifts toward streaming and fewer episodes is making it harder for writers to train to become showrunners. In network TV days, writers would get to visits the sets and see how showrunners navigated the management side of things, but now most writers rooms are off the payroll before the show has finished production.

-I liked Sydney Sweeney in Euphoria but it wasn’t until The White Lotus that I realized what she could do. She stars in the trailer for the erotic thriller The Voyeurs, coming to Amazon Prime.

Cardi B Is Woman of the Year

Cardi-B billboard woman of the year

Cardi B is Billboard’s Woman of the Year — and what a year it was. In the interview she says, “I’m not gonna front — this has been a bad year due to work. You can’t do shows and you gotta wait on deals. But I’m really happy because I have spent so much time with my family. I feel like I haven’t laughed like I have in 2020. My daughter is so funny, and I’m with her every single day. That’s what brings me happiness.”

-Wow wow wow – the news that Warner Bros will stream ALL their 2021 movies on HBO Max on the same day as their theatrical debut is a huge, seismic shift for the movie industry. There’s lots of debate about whether this marks the death toll for movie theatres or if this was just because HBO Max needed Warner Bros’ entire slate to save it (I can’t wait to read tomorrow’s think pieces!) but either way, even after we get a vaccine and life returns to normal, it’s going to be hard to put the toothpaste back in the tube.

-Meanwhile, Canada will still get all those movies as theatrical releases. They’ll eventually come to Crave someday, maybe.

-Fans are convinced Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn are engaged because in her re-recorded version of “Love Story”, the lyrics have changed from “Baby, just say, ‘Yes’” to “Baby, just said, ‘Yes.’”

Chet Hanks tried to defend his controversial use of Jamaican patois in a Clubhouse chat.

-Ok, I’ll give it to the Kardashians. This Facetime prank is pretty great.

Daniel Radcliffe appeared on Hot Ones and in between wing tasting, he talked about why he won’t join social media. “When I was younger, not anymore thanks god, I would like to look up comments about myself on the internet and read s–t like that. That is an insane and bad thing to do. And to me, like Twitter and everything just feels like an extension of that. Unless I want to go just read all nice things about myself, which also feels like another unhealthy thing to do.”

In a new video to promote her skincare line, Jennifer Lopez goes completely makeup free and looks amazing.

Glenn Close doesn’t think Gwyneth Paltrow should have won her Oscar for Shakespeare in Love, which might mean a lot more if Close didn’t say it while promoting the critically lambasted Hillbilly Elegy.

-Superstore will end its run this spring with 15 episodes, rather than a full 22. The final season begins January 14.

Mindy Kaling responded to a comment that her two kids have “very Caucasian” first names, revealing her 2-year-old daughter Katherine’s middle name, Swati, as well as her 3-month-old son Spencer’s, Avu.

-I was worried when I saw that Nora Roberts was trending but it’s just because she clapped back at some ninny who tried to explain to her how publishing works. I want “Stop. You literally don’t know what you’re talking about” on a tshirt.

-The only person in the audience at the Chanel Métiers fashion show was Kristen Stewart.

Aubrey Plaza became a paparazzi target during quarantine because she lives near Brad Pitt.

-I bet the unmasked fan who approached Gloria Estefan and gave her covid now feels like shit.

-Here’s the trailer for Wendy Williams’ Lifetime biopic.

Ralph Fiennes makes a rare discover in the trailer for Netflix period drama The Dig.

Mindy Kaling’s Secret Baby

Mindy Kaling recently welcomed her second child — a baby boy named Spencer. This explains a Deux Moi item from a week or so about an actress who covered up an entire pregnancy and labour by posting pre-made content on Insta. There were some belly bump-ish photos from the paps earlier this summer but she kept posting non-pregnant bathing suit pics so it was kind of forgotten. I love how sneaky and secretive she is. We still don’t even know who the father of her first kid is, let alone this one!

-In a lengthy Insta note, Blake Jenner confirmed that he was emotionally, mentally and physically abusive towards ex-wife Melissa Benoist … but then tried to play it off like it was because she was also abusive to him? Trash. The fact that he waited a year after her allegations until she had just given birth and seems to have moved on with her life makes him even trashier.

-This isn’t a good sign: Britney Spears‘ own lawyer called her capacity into question when explaining the lack of direct testimony in her conservatorship case, and said representing her was similar to representing a “comatose” client.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle recently went out for dinner with David Foster and Katharine McPhee (before McPhee’s baby news broke).

-After cancelling Morgan Wallen‘s scheduled performance because he broke protocol by partying with maskless strangers, SNL has announced Jack White as the replacement musical guest.

-Are the Oscars going to be cancelled? I get why people are wondering, but I’ve already seen some great, award-worthy movies (One Night In Miami, Nomadland, The Father) and it would suck if they didn’t get their due. I adore this idea of giving the general public screeners this year, though assume distributors would never allow it.

-Oof. Broadway extended its shutdown through May 2021, but at least two major productions are betting that it won’t really return until next fall.

-Amid the wave of “un-renewals“, Star Trek: Discovery producer Alex Kurtzman broke down the difficulties of producing TV shows right now, including the shocking PPE costs (up to half a million per episode!).

-Yikes, this is bad optics for Netflix.

Katie Couric hosted another Mean Girls reunion. If this could be a monthly thing, that would improve my quarantine greatly.

Niecy Nash and her new wife musician Jessica Betts appeared on GMA together and it was v. cute.
