Anya Taylor-Joy’s Flower Power

Anya Taylor-Joy poses with sunflowers on the cover of InStyle

Anya Taylor-Joy covers Instyle’s Beauty Issue. She talks about how her friends keep her grounded (“I also have great friends who tease me mercilessly if I even hint at being overworked or stressed. They’re like, ‘Oh yeah, honey, it’s so sad that you have to go get on a plane and go do whatever'”) and learning boundaries (“I really struggle with wanting to give everybody everything all of the time”).

-Besides Dune, her new movie (Edgar Wright’s Last Night in Soho) is the hottest ticket at TIFF. A new trailer dropped today and it’s both creepy and intriguing.

-Big news broke last night: Jamie Spears asked a judge to end his daughter’s 13-year conservatorship. There’s chatter that he didn’t want to deal with the “pressure” Britney’s new attorney has kept up on him, accusing him of abusing his power over her and of dissipating her estate. He also resisted Jamie’s attempts to be compensated for stepping down as her conservator, saying there was nothing to negotiate and that Jamie should resign immediately.

-Though this is a good step forward, ending her conservatorship likely won’t be a quick process.

-Last night’s other big news: John Mulaney appeared on Seth Meyers’s show last night and spoke candidly about his intervention and subsequent trip to rehab, and confirmed he and Olivia Munn are expecting. Meanwhile, the discourse around him has grown exhausting. I think two things can be true at the same time: people are very invested in his personal life because he’s made that such a huge part of his standup that they’re now pushing back against (unjustified) feelings of betrayal, but also he traded on his rep as Hollywood’s “good guy/non-toxic celeb/the marriage guy” a little too heavily to make the timeline of events (not to mention his ex wife’s reactions) sit well with some folks. This thread pretty much nails it.

-Speaking of the timeline, he opened the interview with some clarification (or revision?). He said he first went to rehab in September last year, split from his ex-wife in October, then relapsed and went back to rehab for two months, and didn’t start dating Munn until the spring.

Kylie Jenner announced that she and Travis Scott are going to have another baby with this cute Instagram video, and fans are convinced she hinted it’s a boy.

Bob Odenkirk posted a photo of himself look happy and healthy back on the set of Better Call Saul.

-This Vulture review of Drake‘s new album is the best one I’ve read yet. “It is a trip through a world we already know. There are no surprises in its landscapes. Maybe this is the source of its appeal.”

Nicole Kidman made an ad about why everyone should return to AMC, and a lot of people are pointing out that her watching movies in an empty theatre is kind of missing the point.

Eva Longoria has resigned from the Time’s Up board amid the organization’s turmoil.

-Though no official cause of death has been determined yet, authorities are reportedly investigating Michael K. Williams‘ passing as an overdose.

-The first teaser for Netflix’s star-packed Don’t Look Up has arrived. It stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, Cate Blanchett, Jonah Hill, Timothée Chalamet and Meryl Streep.

Zendaya’s Promo Blitz

zendaya on the cover of British vogue vogue

Zendaya covers the October issue of British Vogue, styled by Law Roach. Between Dune and Spider-Man promotion, she’s everywhere right now and I don’t hate it.

In GQRegé-Jean Page talks about what’s next for his career, breaks down his favourite pieces from his own wardrobe, and says he’s moved on from the show that made him famous. “The universe has expanded. So I’m no longer in the Bridgerton WhatsApp group.”

-Goddamit. Michael K. Williams, who starred in everything from The Wire, Boardwalk Empire, Community and Lovecraft Country was found dead on Monday afternoon inside of his Brooklyn residence.

Angelina Jolie spoke to The Guardian mostly about her activism, but the article is getting more attention for the gross way the writer opens it, and her brief mention of being “hurt” when then-husband Brad Pitt worked with Harvey Weinstein despite knowing the producer had tried to assault her.

-The publicists for Jessica Chastain and Oscar Isaac‘s new HBO show must have popped champagne when they realized that this slo-mo gif of him kissing her arm on the red carpet went viral. (They’re actors and they’re both very good at acting and promotion, but damn that response underlines just how starved we are for a pair that has good onscreen chemistry.)

-Chastain posted a cheeky response to the hubhub. He later held her purse on a different red carpet because again, they’re very good at this.

-Speaking of things that caused the internet to melt down this long weekend, Olivia Munn was papped and appears to be pregnant, which has led to lots of speculation about the timeline of her and John Mulaney‘s relationship. A tiktok has resurfaced that a comedian posted back in May about the pair expecting, right after that news of his split from his wife came out.

-It feels like a good time to revisit this piece about fans’ connection to Mulaney, and the parasocial cloud that now seems to surround him.

-Emily in Paris star Lily Collins got married in Colorado over the weekend, and People has the photos.

-Meanwhile, Coel looks incredible on the cover of Elle UK.

-Ok fine, Momoa’s new Aquaman suit has won me back.

-Marvel’s Shang Chi (which I really dug) crushed box office expectations, which might convince Disney to keep The Eternals in theatres only.

A new fan site for The Matrix: Resurrections generates a unique teaser video featuring footage and narration from the sequel. Right now, if you click on the blue pill you get Neil Patrick Harris’ character saying, “you’ve lost your capacity to discern reality from fiction,” but if you choose the red pill and enter the matrix, you hear Yahya Abdul-Mateen II’s voice telling you the current time and saying that “couldn’t be further from the truth.” Both options give you different glimpses of footage.

-The Carrie Diaries’ Anna Sophia Robb announced on Instagram that she’s engaged, and this pic is so much better than the ultra-staged ones we usually get.

Friends of Jean-Michel Basquiat are not happy with Beyoncé and Jay-Z for their use of a painting by the late American artist their Tiffany & Co ad.

-Want to attend the Met Gala? For the first time ever, it will be live-streamed by Vogue on Sept 13. The stream will be hosted by hosted by Keke Palmer and Ilana Glazer.

-The reviews are glowing for Apple TV+’s filmed performance of the musical Come From Away.

Janet Jackson promises to tell her own story in the teaser for Janet, a two-night documentary coming to Lifetime.

Jake Gyllenhaal plays a 911 operator who receives distressing call in trailer for The Guilty. I’m seeing this next week at TIFF and I don’t know if my blood pressure can handle it.

idris-elba-dark-tower

-Drool. Idris Elba is on the cover of EW to promote Stephen King‘s Dark Tower. Oh, Matthew McCoanaughey is there too, I guess.

-Speaking of McConaughey, this little girl recreated his car commercial in Barbie Jeep. Bless her.

-The Wire’s Michael K. Williams was a backup dancer for Ginuwine, which makes me ridiculously happy.

Netflix’s Stranger Things is being compared to ET, Freaks & Geeks and Stand By Me? Dammit, I’m going to have to watch this thing! #WinoForever

Gwyneth Paltrow was at a makeup event at a store in my hood, and I got a glimpse of her (and a very blurry photo) when she and her burly security guard were leaving. Is this what it feels like to catch a Pokemon?

-Meanwhile, Gwyneth and Chris Martin are finally officially divorced consciously uncoupled.

-Another day, another article about how the Taylor SwiftTom Hiddleston relationship could just be a giant hoax. Meanwhile, a source close to Swift insists they’re real and they’re spectacular.

-MTV’s ‘delete your account’ column continues to be a thing of beauty. This week’s target: Calvin Harris.

Fred Savage would make a *great* cohost for Live. He was a total charmbomb when promoting The Grinder.
