Emma Stone is Interviewed By Jennifer Lawrence for Elle

emma-stone-jennifer-lawrence-elle

-In her new Elle cover story, Emma Stone talks to BFF Jennifer Lawrence about social media (“I think it wouldn’t be a positive thing for me. If people can handle that sort of output and input in the social media sphere, power to them”), and panic attacks (“My mom always says that I was born with my nerves outside of my body. But I’m lucky for the anxiety, because it also makes me high-energy”). I’m glad this interview format is starting to get some flack (as Lainey says “is this becoming a trend? A sh-tty trend?”) Think of the best celebrity profiles you’ve read in the last couple of months, whether it was Taffy Brodesser-Akner on Gwyneth Paltrow, David Marchese on Quincy JonesE Alex Jung on Sandra Oh or Stephen Rodrick on Johnny Depp. There’s a level of distance and probing (be it rooted in admiration or skepticism) that you’re just not going to get from a BFF. As the Fug girls says, “having your friend interview you makes for a flabby and anemic profile at best.”

-In better celeb profiles, this GQ one on John Cho is great.  “You’re the only Asian not in ‘Crazy Rich Asians.’ Did you miss the meeting?”

-Crazy Rich Asians is set to pocket $5.3 million in tonight’s screenings alone. Fingers crossed it makes back its $30M budget in the first 5 days!

-Meanwhile, here’s an explainer on the CRA actors you may not know much about (yet).

-Speaking of new rom coms coming this week that I can’t wait for, Netflix’s To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before is getting great reviews! Vulture says its “witty and sweet” and calls it “summer’s best rom com”, Indiewire says it’s infused with “charm and empathy” and Pajiba calls it “fun and winsome…a total treat and a perfect pick for a night of Netflix and Girls Night in.”

Priyanka Chopra‘s engagement ring from Nick Jonas (that will never not be a weird thing to type) is on full display in a new Insta snap.

Taylor Swift spoke at her concert about the anniversary of her sexual assault Trial verdict: “I just wanted to say I’m sorry to anyone who ever wasn’t believed because I don’t know what turn my life would have taken if somebody didn’t believe me when I said something had happened to me.”

-Outside of his court hearing, Liev Schrieber told reporters he did NOT assault a photographer. “I never touched him, I never touched his body with my body. I was pissed, but that was it. I have nothing else to say.”

Dane Cook hosted a  Q and A on Instagram and opened up about his relationship with Kelsi Taylor, a 19-year-old singer who is 26 years younger than him. Have some bleach handy so you can scrub your brain clean after reading about it.

Chris Pratt is still talking about James Gunn being fired: “We all love James …but we also really love playing the Guardians of the Galaxy”. You know what’s nuts? Gunn seemed to instantly realize his mistake and was like “yup, i screwed up and I’m outtie.” It’s the stars of GoG that won’t let it go.

-In a new interview, Glenn Close commented on Scarlett Johansson‘s trans casting controversy: “People who are producing and directing properties like that need to go out of their way to get trans actors jobs. But they also should have the opportunity to cast the best person.”

-Wondering when your fave TV show returns this fall? I got ya.

-I don’t think anyone was really excited for Colin Jost and Michael Che to host the Emmys, but their latest interview really cemented it. Good job, guys!

-In a wide-ranging interview, Jim Carrey revealed he doesn’t have access to his own Twitter account and has at least three people (“just pals”) sign off on every post: “When you’re in my position, it’s a really smart thing to have a buffer.” This system needs to be adopted by every celebrity, STAT!

-This illustrated ode to The Americans’ wigs is fire.

-A week after splitting from Cheryl Cole, Liam Payne was photographed looking cozy with a model.

Bella Thorne‘s first foray into makeup is not going very smoothly. She’s shilling ridiculously expensive, tiny eyeshadow palettes that may or may not rip off a black-owned beauty brand.

-I think I enjoy reading about HBO’s Sharp Objects more than I enjoy actually watching it. This article on its editing is great, as is this weekly updated piece on all the hidden words in the show.

Viola Davis plots a heist in the latest trailer for Steve McQueen’s Widows.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead plays a stand-up with a complicated past in the All About Nina trailer.

Wonder Woman Earns Early Raves

Wonder Woman on the cover of EW

-Wonder Woman, which got its own EW cover this week, is getting good early reviews! (I already bought 10 tickets for my crew so I was seeing it either way, but this is a relief.)

-Parent of twins Julia Roberts says George and Amal Clooney “don’t need advice from me or anybody else” — and then she proceeded to give some.

Vicky Cornell, the wife of Chris Cornell, issued a statement today implying his suicide may have been the result of taking too much anxiety medication.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are not even engaged yet, but they already have permission to wed at Westminster Abbey. Being a royal is weird, yo.

Amy Schumer has split from Ben Hanisch and says she prefers to date “nice guys,” so I’m guessing it wasn’t exactly amicable.

Steve Harvey‘s ex-wife is suing him for $60 million for child endangerment, torture, conspiracy against rights, intentional infliction of emotional distress, breach of contract, and “soul murder,” which is defined in the lawsuit as “a combination of torture, deprivation, and brainwashing.”

Seth Rogen‘s tweet about Justin Timberlake made me laugh (and yeah, his wife really does look like Jessica Biel).

-This is terrifying: Amber Rose slept while intruder broke into her home and stayed for hours.

Katy Perry pranked unsuspecting visitors to New York’s Whitney Museum. If this happened to me, she would catch these hands.

-The CW revealed their new lineup, and they’re moving Riverdale to Wednesday, Arrow to Thursday (against This is Us — ouch!), and Jane the Virgin to Friday. Also, Black Lightning won’t be part of the shared universe like their other DC shows (because heaven forbid CW’s first black superhero show gets to be part of the crossovers.)

-Also, the CW debuted trailers for their new shows. Black Lightning looks  great, Life Sentence could be cute, and Dynasty looks terrible.

-I don’t know much about One Direction except that their fandom is super intense and will spend lots of money on them.  So why did Liam Payne think it would be a good idea to diss his former band on his first single?

-Orange Is The New Black fans, here’s a skit where Taystee and Poussey meet in Tucker’s bar from Black Mirror’s “San Junipero” episode.

-This is a great piece on how Master Of None captures the loneliness of being constantly connected. The scene that stuck out to me in the new season was when he and his buddy were having the dinner at the most famous restaurant in Italy and they both stopped mid-meal to text.

-Also, chef Massimo Bottura, who was featured in Netflix’s Chef’s Table, was the one who pitched Aziz Ansari on shooting in Michelin-starred Osteria Francescana, not the other way around.

Olivia Wilde was at Times Square yesterday when all hell broke loose.

-P*ssy Posse founder Leonardo DiCaprio has broken up with yet another model.

-The trailer for CBS’ Star Trek show is so wonderfully diverse and female-powered that I might actually watch it.

-Speaking of CBS shows, Mom has made the almost-unheard-of-in-Hollywood decision to donate the $250,000 budget earmarked for Emmy campaigning to Planned Parenthood. I don’t watch it, but this makes me want them to win the Emmy.

-I kind of love this Buzzfeed article about a writer who found her voice by writing Justin Timberlake fanfic. Who knew that was even a thing?

-CBC has unveiled the release date and a trailer for Alias Grace. So much Atwood on our TVs! I love it!

The Stars Shine at the MET Gala

-I’m here for all the stars that brought it at the MET Gala last night. Yes, a lot of the looks were crazy but that’s the whole point. This isn’t the Golden Globes; this is an evening to celebrate avant-garde designer Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garçons and the theme was “Art Of The In-Between” so weird was good.  I especially appreciated the more crazy dresses after reading this Twitter thread about the mechanics of making them. My faves were Rihanna,  Blake Lively(!), and Tracee Ellis Ross. Also props to Celine Dion, who was clearly having the most fun. She pretended her shoe was a phone! God, I love her.

-Also, Sarah Paulson‘s reaction to seeing Madonna was perfectNicki Minaj also got her fangirl on over a bunch of celebs.

-Of course the Kardashian’s led the selfie rule break.

Hailee Steinfeld is not really dating Justin Bieber, in case you were worried.

Susan Sarandon blasted Debra Messing on WWHL for not being very informed? Sit down.

Liam Payne named his new baby Bear Payne. But wasn’t there some big 1D conspiracy theory about a gay bear? Is this a hint? What does it all mean?!?

-Man, it’s been a rough week for diverse, inclusive, female-led dramas. First Sweet/Vicious was cancelled, and now Pitch has been pitched.

-Yay! The writers strike has been averted.

-I kept waiting for Drew Barrymore to say something dumb about wine, but she acquits herself quite well.

-A tearful Jimmy Kimmel detailed his newborn son’s open heart surgery  during last night’s monologue and also slammed Trump’s health care plan, saying “No parent should ever have to decide if they can afford to save their child’s life.”

-Jesus Christ. Apparently Johnny Depp no longer memorizes his lines, he has someone feed them to him via earpiece. Seriously, what’s it going to take for everyone to stop giving that guy a pass?

J.K. Rowling apologized for killing Snape. Uh, why? He stalked a woman who had no interest in him for years and tormented her child because it looked like the guy he lost her to.  I’m glad he got a redemption arc, but that character was trash.

The Big Sick trailer is here! This was Kumail Nanjiani‘s surprise hit of Sundance and I can’t wait to see it.
