-I’m still watching The Morning Show — not because it’s good, but because it’s a train wreck that I can’t look away from. This week’s development makes little sense, so for this show it makes perfect sense. I’m amazed they weren’t publicizing this plot development in the trailers. (Spoilers for the latest episode, obviously).

-With her last couple of posts, Britney Spears is really pushing Instagram’s rules about boobs.

-The judge in Kelly Clarkson‘s divorce has ruled that the Montana Ranch is hers, not her ex’s.

–Bernie Sanders, Adam Schiff, and 118 members of Congress have signed a letter backing IATSE’s demands for meal and bathroom breaks, adequate sleep, and living wages for crew on film and TV sets. The vote on strike authorization began today.

-There’s going to be a movie adaptation of Red, White & Royal Blue? Oh yes please! Bring on all the romance adaptations.

-I saw Melissa McCarthy‘s The Starling at TIFF and did not like it (despite good performances from her and Chris O’Dowd). It’s now on Netflix.

Shawn Mendes Teases Fans with Shower Scene

-The trailer for the new Shawn Mendes doc is out and it starts with him in the shower, which means Netflix has a lock on what his fans wanna see.

–Dominic West is reportedly in talks to play Prince Charles in the fifth and sixth seasons of The Crown, which is kind of delicious considering the past few weeks.

–Mark Ruffalo has jumped to Chris Pratt’s defense, calling him “not overtly political.”

–Kim Kardashian sat down with David Letterman for his Netfix show and offered a clue as to why the family is ending their reality series: “Realistically, we can post something on social media and make more than we do a whole season.” Gawd, that’s depressing.

-After postponing their wedding twice, Taraji P. Henson and fiancé Kelvin Hayden have decided to split.

-Teen Wolf’s Tyler Posey used his OnlyFans account to confirm he’s hooked up with guys. Didn’t he already do this, or am I just getting it confused with all the blind items?

-BIPOC members of the cast of Glow shared a letter they sent to Netflix before the show was cancelled, asking the creators asking for better representation.

-Netflix once again proves that you shouldn’t fall in love with their shows unless you like heartbreak — they canceled Away, starring Hilary Swank and Josh Charles. I’m surprised by this one; it felt like a show that critics didn’t love or talk about but was drawing in the type of quietly loyal audience that watches CBS procedurals.

-Netflix confirmed that Dawson’s Creek won’t have its iconic theme song when it hits the streaming giant’s library next month, instead replaced with Jann Arden’s “Run Like Mad.” Good for her!

-I know this is sounding like a broken record, but my god, what’s going on with Britney Spears’ Instagram?

–Harvey Weinstein’s request for a bail release pending appeal has been denied, reportedly due to his overwhelming amount of resources and motive to flee the country.

–Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy are reprising their Hocus Pocus roles for a virtual reunion on Oct 30. Tickets are $10 to support the New York Restoration Project and special guests will include Meryl Streep, Jennifer Hudson, Glenn Close, Elvira, Billy Crystal, Billy Eichner, Adam Lambert, Thora Birch, Sarah Silverman, Martin Short and more.

-Warner Bros. is eager to release Wonder Woman 1984 in 2020, but there likely won’t be decision about its debut for at least another few weeks as movie theatres in parts of New York are reopening. I still don’t think it’s gonna happen this year.

–Jake Gyllenhaal is teaming up with Canadian director Denis Villeneuve for a new HBO limited series. (I still haven’t forgiven either of them for the ending of their last project together, Enemy.)

–Sacha Baron Cohen and Isla Fischer hosted a Borat screening that was attended by Katy Perry, Josh Gad and Ariana Grande.

-Aw man, Jeff Bridges announced on Twitter last night that he has lymphoma.

-We could all use a little good news and Zendaya is delivering: two special episodes of Euphoria are coming to HBO in December.

–This voting PSA from the Succession cast made me really miss Succession!

–Kristen Stewart and Mackenzie Davis‘ gay romcom is coming to Hulu, which sucks for us Canadians.

–Viola Davis plays legendary blues singer Ma Rainey alongside Chadwick Boseman in his last role in the trailer for Netflix’s Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.

 

Chris Pratt and Katherine Schwarzenegger Welcome Daughter

–Chris Pratt and Katherine Schwarzenegger have welcomed their first child. Katherine’s brother mentioned the news over the weekend, and Pratt confirmed it’s a girl today with a Bible verse-y IG post. They’ve named her Lyla Maria Schwarzenegger Pratt.

–Zoe Kravitz posted some behind-the-scenes snaps from the set of High Fidelity, and when Tessa Thompson commented on her post, Kravitz responded “It’s cool. At least Hulu has a ton of other shows starring women of color we can watch. Oh wait.”

–Robert Pattinson says he tried to sneak off the Tenet set for a Batman screen test, but Christopher Nolan knew what he was up to immediately.

-Among the surprise guests at Dave Chappelle‘s Summer Camp comedy show tour has been …Louis C.K. Ugh.

–Antonio Banderas didn’t have the best birthday, posting on Twitter “I am forced to celebrate my 60th birthday following quarantine after having tested positive for the COVID-19 disease. I would like to add that I am relatively OK…”

–Smash Mouth is definitely in the lead for the most obnoxious band of 2020. First, they mocked Taylor Swift’s new album. Now, they’ve hosted a concert for thousands in the middle of a pandemic, with frontman Steve Harwell telling the crowd: “We’re all here together tonight! F*ck that COVID shit!”

–Rachael Ray and her family are unscathed after their Lake Luzerne, New York, home caught fire last night while they were home.

–Simon Cowell is recovering from surgery after breaking his back in a terrifying e-bike accident.

-A former stylist posted a TikTok about which celebrity clients she styled that were the nicest (Jon Stewart, George Clooney, Ariel Winter, Carrie Underwood, Selena Gomez) and the meanest (Marisa Tomei, Jessica Alba, Katherine Heigl, Jennifer Lopez).

-This is a good piece on the role cop shows have played in shaping attitudes about the police, and what needs to change.

-The more the entire movie industry becomes owned by just a few media conglomerates, the more I want to buy physical copies of everything I love.

–Will Forte will reprise his role as MacGruber in a new series at Peacock.  Here’s the teaser.

-Speaking of Peacock trailers, here’s one for the Saved By the Bell reboot. As funny as it is to have Jessie call back her infamous “I’m so excited, I’m so scared” scene, I gotta wonder who this show is for. The tweens it seems to be aimed at, or the people who are old enough to get the reference?

–Shia LaBeouf is in talks to be Marvel’s next superhero. I don’t hate it.

-The End of the F***ing World executive producer Dominic Buchanan has written a six-page open letter, revealing that he is “shattered” after being told by BAFTA that he cannot purchase a statue following the show’s win at the TV Awards last month.

–Chris Rock‘s Fargo season is now set to premiere Sept 27. Production, suspended for Covid-19, is scheduled to resume this month. I fell off the Fargo train but I’m guessing I’ll watch this because come September, television will be mostly a wasteland.

-HBO keeps letting me down, first with the Run finale, and now the Perry Mason finale.

-Do we really need a new Tron movie? Especially one starring Jared Leto and directed by a dude? Do we??
