-This week is going to be crazy and stressful, so let’s let Beyonce ease us into it with her glorious British Vogue spread, mm-kay? This is the first time she’s given an actual interview in years.

-It’s the day before the election and celebrities are pulling out the big guns. Taylor Swift posted a video to urge fans to vote, while Beyonce has endorsed Biden/Harris, adding the caption “come thru Texas,” and Michael Keaton posted another video for Pennsylvania.

-There’s been a bunch of sitcom reunions too, with the New Girl cast turning the theme song into a voting PSA, and the Community cast shooting an in-character short.

–Dave Chappelle will host the first episode of Saturday Night Live after the presidential election — just like last time.

-Speaking of SNL, people really didn’t like it when this weekend’s host John Mulaney said in his monologue that “nothing much will change” if Biden beats Trump.

–Johnny Depp lost his UK libel case against the publisher of The Sun over an article which called him a ‘wife beater’ – something the actor denies. The judge ruled the Sun has shown that “what they published in the meaning … was substantially true.”

–Kendall Jenner threw a Halloween-themed birthday party amid the pandemic, and the internet is out for blood.

-Most celebs seemed to keep it lowkey this Halloween — but still showed off their costumes on social.

–Megan Fox took to Instagram to call out ex Brian Austin Green for posting photos that make her seem like she’s “an absent mother.”

–Joshua Jackson spotted a guy walking down the street wearing his Mighty Ducks character’s jersey and was totally cool about it.

–Cardi B has canceled her divorce filing from Offset.

-On the other end of the spectrum, Julianne Hough has filed for divorce from Brooks Laich 6 months after they separated, despite a brief reconciliation.

–Jamie Lynn Spears has withdrawn her petition to become Britney Spears’ trustee.

-We learned this weekend that Prince William secretly battled coronavirus in April, even struggling to breathe—but kept his ordeal a secret because he didn’t wish to alarm the public. Which makes his decision to recently appear in public with his grandmother maskless even more strange.

-It’s November, which means Taylor Swift can legally re-record her old albums now.

-Bless Mariah Carey for always ushering in the holiday season with a fun video.

–Stephen Colbert recited a passage about hope from memory. I love this nerd!

–Ray Fisher once again called out Joss Whedon and Warner Bros, this time about racism.

–John Boyega seems to be at peace with where things landed with Disney following his criticism, which he hopes will make it easier for the other actors. “It was a very honest, a very transparent conversation…They gave me a chance also to explain what my experience was like. I’d hope that me being so open with my career, at this stage, would help the next man, the guy that wants to be the assistant DOP, the guy that wants to be a producer.”

-I don’t have much interest in watching Kate Mara play a woman who seduces a high school student, but the reviews for The Teacher are good.

-My goodness, I want to live inside this Bridgerton trailer. It’s the first major show from Shonda Rhimes for Netflix, and it drops at xmas.

John Boyega Takes the Gloves Off

-My god, this John Boyega interview in British GQ is a thrilling read. He speaks frankly about his Star Wars experience, particularly The Last Jedi: “What I would say to Disney is do not bring out a Black character, market them to be much more important in the franchise than they are and then have them pushed to the side. It’s not good. I’ll say it straight up…Like, you guys knew what to do with Daisy Ridley, you knew what to do with Adam Driver. You knew what to do with these other people, but when it came to Kelly Marie Tran, when it came to John Boyega, you know fuck all. So what do you want me to say? What they want you to say is, ‘I enjoyed being a part of it. It was a great experience…’ Nah, nah, nah. I’ll take that deal when it’s a great experience. They gave all the nuance to Adam Driver, all the nuance to Daisy Ridley. Let’s be honest. Daisy knows this. Adam knows this. Everybody knows. I’m not exposing anything.”

-It’s wild to me that some people are criticizing him for this interview and “biting the hand that feeds him.” Disney is increasingly consolidating the entire movie industry and is a multi-billion-dollar media monopoly. They don’t need Twitter fanboys to defend them.

–Two more women have come forward with allegations that comedian Chris D’Elia exposed himself to them.

-A new take on Pretty Little Liars is in the works from the showrunner of Riverdale. No one needs this right now.

–Prince Harry and Meghan Markle just signed a massive multi-year deal with Netflix, where they will be producing films and shows aimed at “inspiring hope.”

-Mulan star Yifei Liu once owned 30 cats. I have so many questions.

–Cardi B has come a long way since getting into a fight with Nicki Minaj at a fashion party. She just became the new face of Balenciaga.

-Part of me wants to cheer when celebs like Padma Lakshmi post bikini pics to celebrate turning 50, but part of mean thinks this is really damaging.

-The Venice Film Festival opened with a rallying cry in defense of the moviegoing experience in the face of threats posed by streaming giants.

-Why in the world is the CW  trying to rename the Arrowverse the CWverse? Nah.

–Britney Spears is denying comments that she keeps posting the same selfies over and over, saying “well you know us girls …… it’s the same top and same hair but if you look at the details it’s a completely different picture.”  But — and I think this question applies to her entire social media presence — why?!

-There are new photos of Kristen Stewart and Mackenzie Davis in their upcoming gay holiday romcom and I need this movie so much.

-Scientology is reportedly tightening its reins even tighter with celeb followers. How fun for them.

-Star Trek: Discovery’s third season is going to introduce Trek’s first explicitly trans and non-binary characters.

-While promoting her new beauty line, Selena Gomez opened up about her mental health troubles. “I’ve tried a ton of different things, but the one thing I’ve never stopped doing is asking for help. That was the hardest part, but I truly believe that that’s why I’m stronger.”

-Here’s the trailer for Emily in Paris, a new series from Sex and the City creator Darren Star that stars Lily Collins.

-The first trailer for Netflix’s Ryan Murphy-produced adaptation of the hit Broadway show The Boys in the Band has arrived, starring Jim Parsons, Zachary Quinto, Matt Bomer, Charlie Carver, Robin DeJesús and Andrew Rannells.

-This year’s Hollywood Reporter’s TV drama actress roundtable features Janelle Monae, Jennifer Aniston, Zendaya, Reese Witherspoon, Helena Bonham Carter and Rose Byrne. I love how Witherspoon, Aniston and Carter are all going on about how the pandemic has given them time to pause and think about the world and Monae says “For me and my people, for the Black community, this is not an exciting time. This isn’t a time that we get to really reflect. We’re dealing with a lot of trauma.”

–Jenny Slate has exited Big Mouth. “Black characters on an animated show should be played by Black people. Me playing Missy, I was engaging in an act of erasure of Black people.” Your move, Kristen Bell.

–Bryan Singer appears to still be preying on boys despite The Atlantic’s explosive expose about him last year. In a new thread, Elijah Daniel details how the disgraced director is still around and allegedly recruiting boys for trips to Hawaii, shifting his focus from aspiring actors to Instagram influencers. Minutes after posting the thread, images of boys with the tag #BryanSinger were scrubbed from Instagram.

–Stephen Colbert interviewed John Bolton last night and did not get off his neck. It was glorious. “How did you not know beforehand that [Trump] was just callow? … You’re an international negotiator. How could you be naive? You’ve dealt with the worst people in the world.”

-The Globes’ TV critic John Doyle spilled some tea on Ben Mulroney and his thin skin in today’s paper. He talked about jokingly creating a ‘most annoying Cdn’ poll in 2003. Mulroney, who was hosting Canadian Idol at the time, tied with the guy from the Canadian Tire ads. “All in good fun. Some of the TV personalities on the list thought it was hilarious. One sent me a bouquet of flowers. I didn’t hear from Ben Mulroney directly of course. Oh my, no. I did hear from Senator Marjory LeBreton, the former deputy chief of staff in Brian Mulroney’s government. Her letter to the Editor-in-Chief and Publisher and CEO of this newspaper, also cc’d me, let me know there was umbrage taken at Ben Mulroney being teased in my column…There was certainly a call or two of complaint to the paper’s then Editor-in-Chief from Brian Mulroney.” While Doyle’s bosses were supportive of him, he says his counterpart at The Sun wasn’t so lucky: “Brian Mulroney was then on the board of Quebecor, which owned the Sun, and the Mulroney family complained to the paper’s bosses about the TV critic’s coverage of Ben. The writer was summoned to a meeting and told, ‘Never type the words ‘Ben Mulroney’ again.’ And he didn’t. He couldn’t.”

-Meanwhile, Lainey reiterated and expanded upon the apology she posted on today’s episode of The Social after her old posts were trending online. This is very well done.

–Penn Badgley spoke about his You costar Chris D’Elia being accused of sexually harassing and grooming underage girls: “It did affect me deeply. I was very troubled by it. I am very troubled by it. I don’t know Chris. I know that, if there’s anything we need to do in this age, it’s to believe women.”

-Days of Our Lives’ Melissa Reeves has come under fire for her anti-Black Lives Matter stance. As someone who once made a scrapbook for Jack & Jennifer’s wedding in her youth, this is super disappointing.

-Brooklyn Nine-Nine is reportedly scrapping four episodes and starting over to focus more on BLM.

-Really liked this piece on how we think of — and what we want from — famous people is changing.

–Roch Voisine was trending in Canada, and I’m so happy that it’s not because he has died… It’s because he’s turned into a stone cold daddy.

–Timothee Chalamet and Eiza Gonzalez were spotted vacationing together in Mexico. How is anyone vacationing right now? I have so many questions.

-TIFF has unveiled the first details about this year’s film festival. It’ll be dramatically scaled down (50 features from last year’s 333), will feature some drive-in screenings, and will have a huge online component.

–John Boyega responded to that viral marriage proposal.

-Netflix’s new cooking show Crazy Delicious is getting great buzz.

–Padma Lakshmi’s Taste the Nation on Hulu is also getting good reviews.

-Eurovision Song Contest, starring Will Ferrell and Rachel McAdams and dropping on Netflix this weekend, is getting mixed reviews. Variety says it’s “a badly shot one-joke movie that sits there and goes thud,” while Vulture calls it “glorious,” the Globe & Mail says “it’s barely a movie at all,” and Vanity Fair calls it “silly and fun.”
