Bennifer Rises!

-Bennifer is back, baby! 17 years after calling off their engagement, Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck were spotted on a romantic vacation in Montana.

-So the Golden Globes are pretty much dead, huh? Netflix kicked things off on Friday by announcing they were “stopping any activities” with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association until changes were made about their lack of diversity, and Amazon quickly followed suit. Then today, NBC announced it wouldn’t air the show next year, stars like Scarlett Johansson, Ava DuVernay and Mark Ruffalo called them out, and Tom Cruise GAVE BACK the awards he’s won over the years as a sign of protest. (Hopefully we’ll finally get justice for Brendan Fraser.)

–John Mulaney and his wife Annamarie Tendler are splitting up after six years of marriage — and it seems like it was his decision. In a statement to People via her rep, she said “I am heartbroken that John has decided to end our marriage. I wish him support and success as he continues his recovery.”

–Gal Gadot says Joss Whedon treated her badly on the Justice League set: “He kind of threatened my career and said if I did something, he would make my career miserable. I handled it on the spot.” That lines up with what a source told the Hollywood Reporter in their exposé about it: “Joss was bragging that he’s had it out with Gal. He told her he’s the writer and she’s going to shut up and say the lines and he can make her look incredibly stupid in this movie.”

–Aubrey Plaza confirmed that she’s married to her longtime boyfriend Jeff Baena — and the internet was weirdly mad about it.

–Kristen Bell continues to overshare about her sex life with Dax Shepard.

-Who thought it was a good idea to put up Gina Carano for Emmy consideration for The Mandalorian, the show she was fired from?

-I really loved this interview with Sierra Teller Ornelas, the Native co-creator of Rutherford Falls.

–Seth Rogen says he has no plans to work with James Franco again after his sexual misconduct allegations. “What I can say is that I despise abuse and harassment and I would never cover or conceal the actions of someone doing it, or knowingly put someone in a situation where they were around someone like that.”

-He was asked about it when promoting his new memoir, which is getting rave reviews.

-Grey’s Anatomy has been renewed — but Jesse Williams is leaving the show. (Though he and Sarah Drew teased a spinoff about their characters.)

–Helen Mirren is helping Italy’s vaccination effort with a viral video.

-There’s an oral history of Tom Holland‘s performance of “Umbrella”!

-Amid all the controversy about Doctor Who actor Noel Clarke, his costar John Barrowman has apologized for repeatedly exposing himself on set. I remember the Arrow cast talking about him doing this all the time like it was a funny joke. David Boreanaz used to brag about doing this on the Buffy set, too.

-In case you missed this wildly depressing news last week, LaKeith Stanfield moderated a Clubhouse chat dedicated to anti-Semitic conspiracy theories where Jews were repeatedly compared to Satanists and termites.

–Dave Bautista is set to join the cast of Knives Out 2.

-I’m not sure why the New York Post thinks Leonardo DiCaprio looks unrecognizable in the first photos of the new Scorsese film. He looks like he always does? (The replies to their tweet are hilarious.)

-Actually unrecognizable is Lily James as Pamela Anderson. Sebastian Stan as Tommy Lee still looks like Sebastian Stan, though.

–Henry Cavill posted a sweet picture with girlfriend Natalie Viscuso — and the internet immediately uncovered an old episode of My Super Sweet 16 that she appeared in.

-She reportedly flew to UK to be with him earlier this year while he was filming the second season of The Witcher. Getting on an airplane right now must mean it’s love.

-Congrats to Macaulay Culkin and Brenda Song, who welcomed their first child together – a baby boy named after his late sister, Dakota.

–According to his lawyer, Harvey Weinstein is nearly blind, experiencing cardiac issues and has had four teeth removed.

-The Talk returned today for its first episode in a month, and Sheryl Underwood talked about her heated exchange with Sharon Osbourne that led to the hiatus. “I feel like I’ve been in, like, PTSD because it was a trauma, and I feel like I want to get past this because I really wanted to get back to work with my friends and my colleagues and the crew … but I also wanted to get back to the audience,” she said. “I didn’t want to escalate things with Sharon because I thought I was having a conversation with a friend, but also I knew I had to be an example for others to follow because I didn’t want to perceived as the angry black woman, and that really scared me.”

–Lucy Liu has joined the Shazam sequel as the sister of Helen Mirren’s villainous character. How is this movie pulling a cast like this??

-Grey’s Anatomy star Jesse Williams is still locked in that brutal custody battle. A judge has ordered them to go to “high conflict parenting class.”

–Kanye West’s lawyers responded to Kim Kardashian‘s divorcing filing, agreeing with her that they should have joint custody of their four children and neither of them need spousal support.

–This is a good piece on how celebrity bloggers Lainey Gossip and Perez Hilton have been reckoning with the awful stuff they wrote in the 2000s — and how they’re taking radically different paths in their apologies.

–Daniel Dae Kim opened up to Vulture about his fight for fair pay on Hawaii Five-0, and whether he felt his costars were allies. “I think any time you have an ensemble of actors, everyone’s objectives are unique and individual. So it’s hard for me to collectively say whether they were allies in this. And I do know that the way things got spun by the end changed my relationships with them.”

-Thunder Force was really, really not good — but this Jodie Foster bit made me laugh.

–Vanessa Carlton revealed she wrote “A Thousand Miles” abpout a “famous actor” who went to Juilliard — and her fans have guesses.

-Some viewers of HBO’s The Nevers took to Twitter to express their frustration with being caught off guard by Joss Whedon’s name in the credits.

–Rihanna and A$AP Rocky are still hanging out.

-I love the dress Anna Kendrick wore to the BAFTAs this weekend.

-Minari’s Youn Yuh-jung won best supporting actor and said she was happy to be recognized by British people because they’re “known as very snobbish people.” God, I love her with my whole heart.

-I gave up on Shameless years ago, but fans seem to be disappointed by last night’s series finale. Which is the exact opposite reaction that the Wynonna Earp finale seems to have garnered.

-The Friends reunion special finished filming this weekend.

–Sebastian Stan promoted his new movie by posting a pic of his butt. Works for me!

–Uzo Aduba is leading HBO’s In Treatment revival, which just got a new trailer and a May 23 premiere date.

 

Oprah Talks Plans and Planes

–Oprah Winfrey covers the latest THR and her interview is delicious. She reveals that an annoying fan at an airport convinced her to buy a private plane (“She says, ‘Cause on TV you always giving people hugs. I want a hug.’ So I stood up and I gave her a hug and then I went to the phone and called my lawyer and I said, ‘I’m going to do it, I’m going to get the plane. This is going to be my last time waiting four hours in the Chicago O’Hare Airport'”) and was pretty blunt about her time at 60 Minutes and CBS (“How should I say this? Never a good thing when I have to practice saying my name and have to be told that I have too much emotion in my name…They would say, ‘All right, you need to flatten out your voice, there’s too much emotion in your voice.’ So I was working on pulling myself down and flattening out my personality — which, for me, is actually not such a good thing”). Imagine hiring Oprah and then not letting her be Oprah?!?

-Feast your eyes on Keanu Reeves in the new Saint Laurent campaign.

-It somehow escaped my attention that Moby and Natalie Portman used to date but this excerpt about it from his book is great.

–Jesse Williams‘ messy divorce continues its messiness. He’s asking a judge to deny his ex’s motion that he pay $200k for her legal bills.

-Variety has released some of the salaries Hollywood movie stars will make on their latest projects. Netflix is pushing up the paydays with Ryan Reynolds getting $27M for Six Underground, and Will Smith getting $35M for Bright 2. For studio films, Margot Robbie, Leonardo DiCaprio, Gal Gadot and Brad Pitt are all reportedly raking in upwards of $10 million for their latest flicks.

-It looks like Randall Emmett has finally paid 50 Cent the $1M he was owed because the Instagram posts about it are now deleted, depriving us of the best clapbacks of all time.

-Buckingham Palace released a statement shutting down the Baby Sussex name speculation.

-I’m loving all the celebrity guests on this season’s Gay of Thrones. This week’s is Gabrielle Union!

-The Game of Thrones cinematographer is defending the latest episode, telling TMZ “I know it wasn’t too dark because I shot it” and Wired “people don’t know how to tune their TVs properly.” That may be true (and I’ve certainly seen lots of spirited and technical defenses of him), but at a certain point — don’t you have to understand the limitations of the technology that most people are going to consume it on and work around that? If the majority people can’t see the thing they were supposed to see, you pooched it.  Though I still maintain that the editing was worse than the cinematography. Like that scene with Sansa and Tyrion when he raises their clasped hands and kisses hers I went, “Wait, they were holding hands? When did that happen? Show that!” And then they moved from their spot in the crypt and did…something. Did Sansa battle some wights with that dagger? Or did they just reposition?

-Empire was just renewed — but Jussie Smollet‘s future on the show remains in limbo. Said Fox in a statement: “By mutual agreement, the studio has negotiated an extension to Jussie Smollett’s option for season six, but at this time there are no plans for the character of Jamal to return to Empire.”

-Well, this is a very worrying and depressing tweet about Britney Spears from a director.

-When Netflix aired 13 Reasons Why, experts warned that it could to cause an increase in suicides especially among adolescents. A news study finds that’s exactly what happened.

-No gonna lie; Zac Efron’s abs freak me out.

–Taylor Kitsch, Sienna Miller and Chadwick Boseman star in the new trailer for 21 Bridges.
