Norm Macdonald Has Passed Away

-Saddened and stunned by the news that Norm MacDonald has died at 61 “after a long and private battle with cancer.” There are a lot of clips floating around this afternoon, but the ones I keep seeing over and over are his moth joke, and his roast of Bob Sagat.

-Stars brought the fashion drama to the Met Gala last night. My faves were Tessa ThompsonElliot Page, and Lupita Nyong’o. See every single look here.

Keke Palmer killed it as the live stream host.

-It freaks me out how completely unrecognizable Hailee Steinfeld was at the gala.

Cara Delevingne is getting some heat because neither she nor the designer credited the person who coined “Peg the Patriarchy.”

Channing Tatum and Zoe Kravitz didn’t pose on the Met red carpet together, but they did leave together.

Nick Minaj tweeted her reason for not going to her 22 million followers: “They want you to get vaccinated for the Met. if I get vaccinated it won’t for the Met. It’ll be once I feel I’ve done enough research. I’m working on that now.” I would love to know what kind of research vax-hesitant people are doing that hasn’t already been done by the world’s leading experts and doctors.

-Congrats to Kate Hudson, who just got engaged and was not already engaged like I thought she was.

Jennifer Aniston was on Kimmel last night and said she’s skipping the Emmys because of covid. “This is still a big step for me just to be here. It’s just baby steps.”

Jason Sudeikis was spotted hiking with model Keeley Hazell, but his camp says they’re “just friends.”

Jeremy Jordan, Tammy Blanchard, and more from the Little Shop of Horrors’ Off-Broadway revival kicked off Broadway week last night on The Tonight Show.

-Only Murders In The Building has been renewed for season 2. I wonder how they keep it going. Another murder? Another building?

Will Ferrell crashed Ryan Reynolds’ latest TikTok.

-Why did Britney SpearsInstagram account disappear?

-I have so many questions about this photo, including ‘how did they all end up in the bathroom together?’

Andrew Garfield told Jessica Chastain that their promotional campaign for The Eyes of Tammy Faye will be a ‘no-licky-pitty zone‘ after her viral red carpet moment with Oscar Isaac in Venice. (I saw the film last night and while I was a bit lukewarm on it, Chastain is for sure a lock for an Oscar nod.)

Alanis Morissette does not support the documentary about her that is currently at TIFF and will soon be on HBO. “I agreed to participate in a piece about the celebration of Jagged Little Pill’s 25th anniversary and was interviewed during a very vulnerable time (while in the midst of my third postpartum depression during lockdown)…I was lulled into a false sense of security and their salacious agenda became apparent immediately upon my seeing the first cut of the film.”

-Man, I’m going to have to watch the leggings doc on Amazon that everyone’s talking about, aren’t I?

-Dune has released another featurette ahead of its opening.

Brad Pitt Gets the Spotlight at Frank Ocean Concert

Brad Pitt made a surprise appearance at Frank Ocean’s concert and I have SO MANY QUESTIONS. (Was this a statement? Art? Did he even know he was on screen? Somebody tell me!!)

-I didn’t understand Ayra‘s “that’s not you” line to her direwolf on GoT last night but now that I read the explanation I’m crying.

-Sorry, One Direction fans: Louis Tomlinson has shut down rumors of a romance with Harry Styles.

Lena Dunham referred to Jack Antonoff’s sibling as her “sister-in-law” on Instagram, and then had to deny speculation that she got married.

-I really, really liked this thread responding to Christopher Nolan‘s Netflix comments.

-I guess this is Kevin Hart’s response to those cheating allegations?

-Girls Trip (which I liked A LOT) had the biggest opening weekend for a live-action comedy this year despite its R rating, and already earned back what it cost to make. Add the fact that Wonder Woman and Beauty and the Beast are the year’s top-grossing films so far, and the box office is looking downright rosy for women-led flicks.

-The “friend from work” line in Thor: Ragnarok (aka – the best line in the entire trailer) was actually pitched by a Make-a-Wish kid who was visiting the set the day they shot that scene.

-In news that came out of ComicCon, Michelle Pfeiffer is joining the Ant Man sequel, Patty Jenkins has weirdly not signed on to Wonder Woman 2 yetHenry Cavill’s mustache is causing problems for Justice League, and Ben Affleck insists WB isn’t replacing him (“‘We want you to be the Batman’ they told me, and I believe them.”) Also, I would *love* to know which TV cast was yelling at each other before their TV Line interview.

-Speaking of TV casts behaving badly at the con, the Supergirl crew really stepped in it while doing a musical recap of their season, in which they mocked fans who ship Kara and Lena.  I still need to catch up on that show, but this seemed incredibly mean-spirited. Who cares if the writers will never have Supergirl hook up with a woman onscreen? Let people watch for whatever reason they like and/or hope for whatever outcome they want.  The fact that they were mocking a marginalized group that has really embraced that show made it even worse. The cast’s apologies were not great (gotta love the “I’m sorry but think about ME” tactic).  Jeremy Jordan‘s first note was especially victim-y, but at least he got it right on the second try.

-Everyone is talking about this adorable video of the little girl crying over the Justice League cast, but I like this video of Jason Momoa meeting the little kid who asked about Superman during the panel.

-So much trailer goodies dropped at ComicCon this weekend. On the TV side, we got trailers for the new seasons of Stranger ThingsThe Flash, Arrow, Supergirl, Doctor Who’s xmas special, Legends of Tomorrow, Westworld, Lucifer, Once Upon a Time, Preacher, and The Defenders.

-On the movie side, we got Justice League, Thor: Ragnaraok, Black Panther, and Spielberg‘s Ready Player One. (Also, this video of the Black Panther cast reacting to seeing the trailer for their first time is pretty swell.)

The Stars of Ghostbusters Take Over Elle

ghostbusters-elle-covers

-I love all four Elle covers featuring the stars of Ghostbusters!

-Speaking of Ghostbuster stars, here’s photographic proof that Melissa McCarthy is on the set of the Gilmore Girls revival — complete with Sookie’s trademark headscarf.

Lin-Manuel Miranda penned a powerful op-ed against the ticket-purchasing bots that are monopolizing Broadway sales. “You shouldn’t have to fight robots just to see something you love.”

-Speaking of Miranda, his edition of Carpool Karaoke is my new favourite — though I wish he had another song or two before Audra McDonald, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Jane Krakowski climbed into the backseat. Still, I got goosebumps when they started in on “Seasons of Love,” and Audra‘s final note on “One Day More”? Jesus.

-Meanwhile, James Corden explained to Stephen Colbert how Carpool Karaoke went from a lowly sketch idea to a phenomenon.

-A computer expert has authenticated Amber Heard‘s texts referencing Johnny Depp‘s alleged abuse, while one of her friends is defending her by saying, “How much evidence does a woman need to present?”

-Meanwhile, TMZ continues to work for Team Depp.

Beyoncé referenced Khalessi in her powerful CFDA fashion icon acceptance speech. (She also slayed in a Givenchy ladysuit.)

-Speaking of the CFDAs, this might be my favourite look ever on Jessica Chastain.

-A Quentin Tarantino-produced film put out a casting call for “whores” because the world is awful.

Jamie Lee Curtis cosplayed with her son for the Warcraft premiere, a movie she’s not even in. That makes her a pretty boss mom.

-Meanwhile, Warcraft is KILLING it overseas — despite being called ‘The Battlefield Earth’ Of The 21st Century.’

Daniel Radcliffe freaked out at the sight of his historical doppelgangers on The Tonight Show. “What is it about me that I look like so many stern old ladies?”

-Hmmm…this doesn’t bode well: Chris Messina will not be a regular on the next season of The Mindy Project.

Helen Mirren is endorsing Kim Kardashian’s nude selfies: “I love shameless women. Shameless and proud!”

-Hmmm…I’m so curious which two TV shows fired Kerry Washington for not being “hood” enough.

-I wish I could unsee Meryl Streep donning a fat suit and orangeface to impersonate Donald Trump.

Will Smith will serve as a pallbearer at Muhammad Ali’s funeral.

-Speaking of Will, his daughter Willow joined him onstage to perform “Summertime.”

Scott Speedman was told to put his shirt on for Animal Kingdom. I KNEW there was a reason I wasn’t recording that show! (Also, this interview reminds me what a goddamn charmbomb his is. Cast him in everything, Hollywood.)

-Well, this is terrifying:  Jeremy Jordan is trying to save his cousin from a “pray away the gay” camp.

-I don’t think Supergirl should cast Superman because he could threaten to overwhelm the show BUT if they must, these suggestions are great. Matt Bomer doesn’t seem realistic, but Scott Porter or Enver Gjokaj? YASS!

-An adorable girl vomited on Paula Abdul after dancing to Beyoncé on SYTYCD. Paula, to her credit, rolled with it.

-This photo that Reese Witherspoon tweeted from the Big Little Liars set makes me even more excited to see this movie. I loved the book and the cast is insane: Nicole Kidman, Adam Scott, Laura Dern, Zoe Isabella Kravitz, Shailene Woodley.

Selena Gomez caught a fan FaceTiming at her show and got in on the action.

Drake disses Diddy in his new song “4PM in Calabasas.” Slow down, buddy. I haven’t even finished your new 20-track album.

Nick Offerman costars with his dad in a new ad and shows us who he got his taciturn nature from.

Samantha Bee asks Jon Stewart for help with a horse. #FriendshipGoals

-I am both terrified and intrigued by Kate Hudson‘s ‘electro shock’ under-eye patches.

-It took a lot of work to make Ryan Reynolds look that gross in Deadpool.

-Oof. Last night’s season premiere of UnREAL only managed to nab 500K viewers. Good thing we already know there’s a season 3 coming.

-The Japanese Ghostbusters trailer reveals more footage.
