Matthew McConaughey: Mask Up To Keep On Livin’

-I love how Matthew McConaughey keeps talking and posting about the need to wear a mask. Whether he’s making silly videos or showing off his Spanish, he’s committed to the cause. I wonder if it will catch on more now that Los Angeles is requiring masks when outside, which means we’re about to see a whole lot more celebs wearing them.

Beyoncé shared a new video of the mobile Covid-19 testing sites she helped set up with her mother in their hometown of Houston.

-This Twitter thread of mundane celebrity encounters is an unexpected delight on a gloomy day. When I first moved to Toronto, I once saw Joshua Jackson coming towards me on the sidewalk and I literally stopped in the middle of his path to gawk at him. He smiled and walked around me while I blushed myself to death. Good times!

-The thread has since spun off to fake Diane Keaton sightings, which is equally delightful.

-Don’t worry about Mary-Kate Olsen; her prenup is as ironclad as her commitment to saying “prune” when posing.

-Some gossip tidbits from André Leon Talley’s memoir are starting to roll in as the publication date nears.

-I have not watched Survivor in years but my god, this season was exactly what I needed. The gameplay was outstanding and the best player won (though it is disturbing that there’s only been 3 female winners in the past 15 seasons).

-I guess I wasn’t the only one who liked it. Last night’s finale hits 5-season highs in the ratings.

Ellen Degeneres is reportedly sad that everyone thinks she’s mean. There’s a really easy solution to this: be nicer.

-Tragic: Melissa Etheridge’s 21-year-old son has died following an opioid addiction.

-If you ever want to feel bad about humanity, just follow superhero fandom chatter. Earlier this week, it was Batman fans getting angry at Robert Pattinson for not working out while he’s on a break from filming, and now the CW released a poster for their new Superman show on Twitter and the replies are a garbage fire.

-Speaking of Superman, the CW has pushed the return of most shows to January (except Supernatural, which will air its final episodes this fall.) We’re going to be hit with an intense TV dry spell very soon.

-Hulu’s The Great (and particularly Elle Fanning’s performance) is getting great reviews.

Elle Fanning Talks Losing at Paintball to Angelina Jolie

elle-fanning-instyle

Elle Fanning claims she had an epic paintball outing with Angelina Jolie: “Oh, she’s aggressive..I had never gone paintballing before. We were in full-on armor. We were the only people in the place, with all of her kids. She and I were not on the same team. I was so bad. I hit their security guard in the neck, and he was on my team! Angelina’s really good.” Pics or it didn’t happen.

Mariah Carey is writing her memoirs, which I am gonna read the crap out of. She promises it will be packed with revelations: “Born to a black father and white mother. Lived in basically very humble beginnings. Came out of it…And public humiliation and going through the wringer.” The chapters on Tommy Mottola and Nick Cannon will be worth the price of the book alone.

-In other book-y news, Rihanna is launching a “visual autobiography.” Sweet! Who needs pesky words anyway?

-I’m surprised how traditional Hailey Bieber’s wedding dress is. I mean, it’s very lovely, but not what I was expecting from a 22-year-old model.

-Meanwhile, Justin Bieber mocked Taylor Swift’s banana video.

Ellen Degeneres is having a very bad day. She’s getting deservedly dragged for hanging out with George W Bush, and this tweet about her terrible reputation is going viral.

-It’s been 10 years since Jim and Pam tied the knot on The Office so EW talked to John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer, Paul Feig, Greg Daniels and Mindy Kaling about the secret ceremony, the last-minute dance, and how a horse almost became the focus.

Jennifer Aniston told Howard Stern that shortly after divorcing Justin Theroux, she sought a psychologist to work through the breakup after he was spotted with various hot young things. She also said she had dinner last week with the full Friends cast.

-It seems like everyone I know has had a Liam Hemsworth sighting in Toronto this week and it’s my turn, dammit.

-The End of the F$*&ing World is coming back to Netflix on Nov 5. I really loved the first season and I’m not sure it needs another one, but I’m intrigued about where it goes from here.

-I’d never listened to the Thirst Aid Kit podcast before but my god, that Dan Levy episode is perfection.

Joaquin Phoenix thinks he’s describing his craft, but he’s actually just describing an eating disorder.

-I’m not the biggest Marc Maron fan but damn, his take on Todd Phillips’ “woke” comments is perfect.

-Riverdale’s Lili Reinhart will release her first book of poems next spring. If nothing else, we’ll get a hilarious episode of Who Weekly outta this.

-Matt Lauer has resurfaced…on TikTok.

-I love that Aaron Paul is doing a Twitter scavenger hunt for premiere tickets to the Breaking Bad movie.

-Also, this video of the cast reuniting for the L.A. premiere made me very happy.

-With the rave reviews A Marriage Story and The Irishman are getting, everyone’s wondering how much money Netflix left on the table by not doing limited theatrical releases.

-Speaking of streaming services being stupid with money, Apple’s deal for Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell’s musical A Christmas Carol includes a $60 million price tag just for talent fees.

-Richard Madden, Benedict Cumberbatch, Colin Firth and Mark Strong star in the trailer for the WWI drama 1917.

Olivia Colman Rules in Vogue

-Yass, queen! Olivia Colman is promoting her regal turn on Netflix’s The Crown with a Vogue cover spread, and the interview is wonderful. (“Over the years, pounds have gone on, and my body has changed; I’ve had children. If someone doesn’t like me because of the size of my bum, they can f**k off. Because I’m quite a nice person to be with, actually.”) Her 73 Questions video is also as delightful as you’d expect.

-In a new interview with Hello!, Angelina Jolie says she has a new perspective on motherhood now that her kids are older: “When your children are little you feel more ‘mommy’. When they are teenagers you start to remember yourself as a teenager. You see them going to punk clubs and you wonder why you can’t go. I’m in this fun moment where I’m rediscovering myself.”

-Meanwhile, at his university in South Korea, Maddox was approached by paparazzi and asked about whether dad Brad Pitt planned to visit him at school. “I don’t know about that, what’s happening. Whatever happens, happens.”

Kelly Clarkson and Jennifer Garner is the wholesome Hollywood friendship that the world needs right now.

-Also, Kelly kicks off every episode by doing a cover, and her version of “Bad Romance” is a good time.

-Speaking of movies that sparked with the TIFF crowd, Hustlers is predicted to open big this weekend.

Joaquin Phoenix stormed off the Joker set a lot, according to the director. What is it with actors being jerks on Batman-y sets (Christian Bale, Jared Leto, Phoenix)? And the irony that this happens on a movie which critics say is about toxic masculinity is really something…

-I agree with this piece on how this might be the best fall TV season in years. There are at least three new network shows that I’m going to give a chance (Stumptown, Emergence and Nancy Drew) — which is three more than last year.

-I’ve never seen Downton Abbey, but critics are digging the movie.

-This article on influencer Caroline Calloway from her former friend/ghostwriter has the internet buzzing.

Imogen Poots is stalked by a stranger during their Christmas break in the Black Christmas trailer.
