Dave Franco and Alison Brie Are Married

-Congratulations to Dave Franco and Alison Brie, who got married.

-Speaking of marriage, Broad City’s Ilana Glazer also tied the knot to her longtime boyfriend, David Rooklin.

-Not surprisingly, Angelina Jolie was reportedly “feeling butterflies” before taking on a job that she seems completely unqualified for.

Emma Watson will never be allowed to wear a yellow dress ever again.

-Forgot those skeevy tabloid rumours. Eva Mendes went to SXSW with Ryan Gosling (but she avoided the red carpet).

-Eva is also on the cover of the new Shape magazine, talking about her love of Krispy Kremes. Same, girl.

-Jesus, has there ever been an actor worse at PR than Iron Fist’s Finn Jones?? He’s blaming Trump for bad reviews, skating over the show’s diversity issue, and getting worked up over the “problematic” internet outrage. Doesn’t he remember that Marvel replaced Terrence Howard for less?

-Joss Whedon has mixed feelings about binge watching. Me too.

-I think half of the reason I push back against This Is Us is the way that show is so aggressively marketed as sad. We’re being told tonight’s finale is going to be “intense as hell,” “stressful,” “heartbreaking,” and go to the “darkest place we’ve ever been.”  Parenthood (the show it gets compared to most) certainly had its heavy moments but it didn’t drown in them. I don’t want to feel like that every single week. Plus, the show totally lacks nuance.

-I keep forgetting that Bradley Cooper and Irina Shayk are having a baby. Probably because I keep forgetting about Bradley Cooper and Irina Shayk.

-This is why I try to avoid reading articles about comic-based shows on comic sites. Because of crap like this. God forbid there are two shows featuring female leads without pitting them against each other!

-Out of all the Weekend Update duos that deserved their own spinoff, this one isn’t it.

-Between someone editing Breaking Bad into a 2-hour film, and the Game of Thrones creators bragging that they are making a “73-hour movie,” I’m pretty over people pretending that movies are better than TV. No one wants to watch a 73 hour movie. Make a TV show instead! TV is good!

Brangelina Split, but Jennifer Aniston Gets All The Covers?

jennifer-aniston-brangelina

-UPDATE: Brad Pitt is reportedly being investigated for child abuse after allegedly getting verbally and physically abusive on a private plane with his family last week. More to come, but I guess we know what that inciting “incident” Us Weekly keeps talking about is…

-Tabloids deserve all the eyerolls today. Brangelina‘s split news dropped too late for most to change this week’s covers, so the lower-tiered ones are stuck running their typical (*cough* false *cough*) stories about Jennifer Aniston. Except for the New York Post, who inexplicably ran their Brangelina split cover today — and didn’t feature a photo of Brangelina. Not surprisingly, the online reaction was swift and punishing. I’m wondering how long it’ll take Aniston to ask to remove herself from this narrative?

-I actually thought that if anyone had a chance to rush a new cover to press before their Tuesday deadline it’d be People, but it looks like they were stuck with their Michael Strahan one. At least were in for some deep dives across the newsstand next week.

-Oh my god, I didn’t even think about how the split is going to affect Brangelina’s Miravel rosé. But that’s my summer water!

-Just in case you weren’t already convinced that Brad Pitt was blindsided, here’s footage of CNN breaking the divorce news to George Clooney.

-Meanwhile, I love Lainey’s acutely sharp insight into how Pitt is floundering without being the beneficiary of Angelina Jolie‘s media savvy. He’s going to need to tighten up if he’s fighting for joint custody, as TMZ is reporting.

Chelsea Handler weighed in on the split by saying “he married a ***king lunatic.” Not that she’s biased or anything.

-Also, I’m going to really, really need Jam Session to drop an emergency Brangelina podcast stat.

-In other couple news, Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes’ camps have shot down Us Weekly’s report that they are secretly married. Gawd Hollywood, can’t you give us one thing to hold onto this week?!

-Ok, let’s turn to happier topics, shall we? Like Parks and Rec’s Jean-Ralphio meeting his doppelganger, Stranger Things’ Steve.

Idris Elba is going to be on TV again. Just pour this show directly into my eyeballs ASAP.

Joss Whedon recruited stars from Buffy, Avengers, Greys Anatomy, Blindspot and more for a predictably great anti-Trump PSA. And he returned to Twitter!

Gabrielle Union continues to impress the hell out of me on her Birth of a Nation press tour. “In order to begin to see change start to occur, we have to be willing to have conversations with people who have different opinions than us. I’ve already talked to Lena Dunham; I would love to talk to Kate Upton and Amy Schumer. Maybe I can help to explain the oppressive systems that have benefited and allowed them to say these careless, insensitive and offensive things. Those conversations are awkward as f-ck and they get heated.”

Uma Thurman is the latest movie star to make the jump to TV.

-Folk aren’t impressed with Karen Gillan‘s ‘sexist’ Jumanji outfit, but she insists there’s a reason why she’s wearing child-sized clothes.

-How come this is the first I’m hearing about Netflix’s Easy, a show that drops tomorrow starring Aya Cash, Dave Franco, Hannibal Buress, Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Jake Johnson from the guy who did Drinking Buddies??  I love all of those people! This is the issue of peak TV meeting Netflix’s revulsion for promotion – stuff gets lost in the shuffle.

-I spent a lot of time staring at the McQueen dress Emily Blunt wore to The Girl On The Train premiere and trying to figure out if I like it or not. I think so?  Ask me again in five minutes and I might not.

-My stance on Felicity Jones’ terrible dress at the Burberry show is much less conflicted.

Leah Remini is teaming up with A&E for a new series on Scientology. Here for it.

-Intriguing: Jeffrey Tambor says he has “marching orders” to return to the Arrested Development set in January.

-I love that Chris Pratt braiding interviewers’ hair is now a thing. (Also, Denzel is in a way better mood in this video than he seemed at TIFF.)

-This is really great writing on The Ringer this week celebrating the types of TV that critics tend to ignore. As much as I like Atlanta, Mr Robot, etc., I’m most looking forward to the return of superheroes and soapy dramas.

-This new Anne of Green Gables trailer is…something.

-Yes, Ryan Gosling plays a keytard in La La Land. Him posing with it while biting his lower lip –as well as the scene where Emma Stone forces him to perform “I Ran” — is pure delight.

Gosling, Kate Hudson and Hugh Grant read mean tweets about themselves on Kimmel last night.

Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer, and Janelle Monáe get their math on in the new Hidden Figures trailer. People who saw this at TIFF loved it.

Kristen Stewart Won’t Define Her Sexuality or Star in Crappy Sequels

Kristen Stewart is in total DGAF mode during her Variety interview, and I love it. On not returning for the Huntsman sequel, she says “I read a few scripts. None of them were good. None of them were greenlight-able. And I had a meeting with Universal about the places where the story could go. Maybe Chris [Hemsworth] was more into it. I actually don’t f—ing know.” She also has no interest in defining her sexuality for you. “Me not defining it right now is the whole basis of what I’m about. If you don’t get it, I don’t have time for you.”

-Congrats to Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes, who welcomed their second daughter, Amada Lee Gosling, on April 29.

-Speaking of new dads, Justin Timberlake is just constantly covered in poop these days.

-I bought the new Radiohead album the second I found out that “True Love Waits” is on it. I’ve been waiting for an official version of that song for 20 years.

-Here’s an  interesting look at who exactly is behind the Beyhive.

-In yesterday’s late night shenanigans, Cyndi Lauper and James Corden sang a parody called ‘Girls Just Want Equal Funds‘, Elizabeth Olsen and Anthony Mackie practiced their Scarlet Witch choreographyJodie Foster braved Egg Russian Roulette with Jimmy Fallon, Ryan Gosling bulged out, Stephen Amell admitted to being scared by little girls, and Daveed Diggs (Lafayette!) proved he’s the fastest rapper on Broadway.

-Meanwhile, Seth Meyers is killing it with his Trump coverage.

-I seriously don’t know who convinced Daniel Radcliffe to play a farting corpse in Swiss Army Man but I’m intrigued by its weirdness. Here’s the latest NSFW trailer.

-They’re remaking The Craft? Hollywood is populated by monsters.

-This week’s GOOP arrived with with the subject line “sex issue” so I thought it would be a swell idea to open it in a meeting. It wasn’t. Besides all the hippy-dippy stuff about making your own organic lube, there’s also sex toy recommendations that include a $15,000 dildo.

John Oliver tries to separate the bullshit from the science in his new segment on widely reported studies.

Geena Davis staged a League of Their Own reunion!

-If you tweet a headline that says “We need to talk about Jon Snow’s butt on Game Of Thrones”, I’m a hundo p gonna click on that link.

-It was a big day in TV trailer news. Here’s the trailer for season 2 of for UnREAL, and the trailer for season 4 of Orange Is The New Black.

-I loved this video on Unrealistic TV Acting With Empty Coffee Cups. Someone on the Extra Hot Great podcast suggested gluing a small bean bag at the bottom of takeout cups to make them look weighted. Get on that, Hollywood!

-Faking that you’re a victim of revenge porn to promote your new album was probably not your best move, YACHT. (Their PR company insists the band didn’t have anything to do with it.)

-Even though I didn’t love Captain America: Civil War as much as everyone else seemed to, it did make me give a crap about Spider-Man. Which is something I never thought would happen again.

-Speaking of superhero movies, here’s an interesting look at why X-Men: Apocalypse is generating so little excitement. The early reviews are basically the embodiment of the shrug emoji.

-I like Candice Patton‘s comments about how some superhero TV audiences don’t want to watch women characters evolve (“I think some audiences today are reticent to actually watch characters, especially women, have an arc”). Unfortunately, I don’t think that has anything to do with why audiences haven’t warmed up to her character on The Flash. She’s just been really poorly written.

-Speaking of The Flash, it’s been in a quality nosedive this season but I’m actually kind of looking forward to tonight’s episode, which is directed by superfan Kevin Smith. He’s already using the press tour for tonight’s ep to push for an Arrow gig.

-Meanwhile, the trailer for Kevin Smith‘s new movie Yoga Hosers is beyond weird.

-Disney just dropped the first trailer for Queen of Katwe, starring Lupita Nyong’o, David Oyelowo, Madina Nalwanga. That’s cool. I totally wanted to cry at my desk today.
