Frances McDormand Dances Into Our Hearts

https://twitter.com/CourtneySoliday/status/993687371781738497

-Vogue shot artsy videos of the stars dancing around an exhibit room during the MET gala. The good ones are RihannaCardi BNicki Minaj, and Katy Perry.  The very best one is Frances McDormand dancing to Basement JaxxShe really did look like she was having the night of her life.

Katy Perry flew Kim Kardashian’s press on nails to LA for the MET gala. That’s true friendship.

-At last night’s MET Gala, the theme was Catholicism and the outfits were nuts. I adored Lena Waithe in a giant rainbow capeZendaya‘s take on Joan of Arc, and Blake Lively‘s burgundy number. But no one made me happier than Chadwick Boseman with hair sparkles, and  Frances McDormand  in Valentino.

-I’m really bummed that Scarlett Johansson broke the A-lister embargo and wore Marchesa, despite the Weinstein connection. She says their dresses make women feel “confident.”

Jay-Z, Eminem, Oprah Winfrey, Jennifer Aniston and more are demanding money from the Weinstein Company.

-Congrats to Jesse Plemons and Kirsten Dunst, who had a baby boy.

-I don’t even watch Lethal Weapon, but what’s going on with that show is crazy. Clayne Crawford has been fired as the lead of the Fox drama as producers are scrambling to recast the role, and renewal is supposed to hinge on who they cast. Multiple actors have already passed, according to THR.

-All of the original Avengers got matching tattoos, except for Mark Ruffalo, who opted out. (But Chris Evans has a plan to get him “blackout drunk.“)

-The R. Kelly house continues to crumble before our eyes. Two new accusers appeared on Megyn Kelly Today to detail sexual the harrasment they faced: “You weren’t free to walk throughout the house…We were required to call him Daddy.”

-This makes my heart sad: Colton Haynes has filed for divorce from Jeff Leatham after just six months of marriage. Rumours started circulating this weekend after he released a new song about a cheater, and a blind item began circulating. Haynes shut down speculation that Leatham cheated on Twitter, but did not deny the split. Poor guy; he just lost his mother, too.

Kristen Stewart is looking at Cate Blanchett exactly how I would.

-Here are all the references in the new Childish Gambino music video you probably missed. (I know I did.)

-I can’t stop watching this video of Mariah Carey putting makeup on a stranger.

-Why the hell did The Hollywood Reporter gives Jeffrey Tambor and his sexual harassment allegations a sympathetic, soft-focus profile?  “I did raise my voice at times, I was moody at times, there were times when I was tactless…But as for the other stuff, absolutely not.”

-Meanwhile, the cast wants extra compensation for Netflix’s recut episodes.

-Cancel Bear (who is usually spot on about these things) posted his TV renewal predictions for networks. On Fox, he thinks Gotham and Brooklyn Nine-Nine are toast, Kevin will no longer be saving the world on ABC but Quantico should get a pass, on NBC all their new comedies and Timeless are likely done, while almost every show on CBS and CW are safe (minus CW’s Life Sentence and Valour, which were both just cut).

Ta-Nehisi Coates on Kanye West is the one thing you need to read this week if you haven’t already.

-There have been some very, very good takes about what went down at FanCon. Today’s Vulture piece, which failed to interview the BGN writers who quit or the vendors affected, is not one of them.

-Ryan Reynolds using Canada to promote Deadpool 2 in Europe is a good time.

Cher is a scene-stealer in the new Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again trailer.

Gillian Anderson Is Not Happy with Scully’s Fate

Gillian Anderson discussed what happened to Scully this last season at a fan convention this weekend. Man, you can tell that she’s just gutted about how they did her character dirty. [SPOILERS, OBVS]

-This is nutso: the Westworld creators are planning to post a spoiler video on Reddit outlining season 2 before it airs.  It’s bananas that any show would do this, but especially this one. I get that they were pissed off that everyone guessed last year’s stupid twist ahead of time, but this is a really odd way to deal with that. The whole point of that show is to figure out the twists from what I can tell (I stopped watching in season 1 after it became clear that creating compelling characters wasn’t as important as creating a puzzle maze). But if they take away the fan theory part of it, what’s the point?

Chris Pine is reportedly dating The Mummy actress Annabelle Wallis. She better treat him well! He’s the best Chris!!

Cardi B pulled a Beyonce and revealed her pregnancy at the end of her performance on SNL this weekend.

-Speaking of pregnancy reveals, Kate Hudson announced that she’s expecting her third child by posting a video from her gender reveal party.

-So are Chloe Grace Moretz and Brooklyn Beckham over? He was photographed kissing Playboy model Lexi Wood over the weekend.

-This is a happy surprise: Laura Dern’s Sundance hit The Tale will air on HBO in May.

-The amount Bill Cosby paid Andrea Constand to settle her case has has been revealed: $3.38 million.

-Vulture’s Sandra Oh interview is so very good. She talks about hanging out with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and how she made the heartbreaking realization of how ingrained racism is when she was reading the Killing Eve script and it didn’t even occur to her that she was being considered for the lead.

-Also, her support of the Asian-American interviewer made him cry.

-I’m glad that Colton Haynes is returning to Arrow as a regular (kill the newbies and bring back the characters who actually don’t suck!), but that make no sense with what they just had his character do a couple of weeks ago.

-With Joss Whedon out, it looks like Batgirl might actually be written by a woman. Gasp!

Ryan Reynolds and John Krasinski‘s adorable twitter banter is everything.

-Also, I love that John’s movie crushed all expectations at the box office. And this story about how everyone is afraid to eat during the movie made me laugh.

-Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt has added Busy Philipps to the show’s fourth season, so I guess I need to catch up.

-Speaking of Busy, she told a great story about the time she got in a fight at a bar defending Michelle Williams’ honour.

-The new Infinity War trailer heavies up on Black Panther characters, which is always a good thing. Also, this is hilarious.

-In the Future World trailer, James Franco is a warlord in a post-apocalyptic world. Please kill me before this ever happens.

Oprah Joins George Clooney In Donating to March For Our Lives

Oprah and Steven Spielberg have vowed to match George & Amal Clooney‘s donations to March for Our Lives. Which is wonderful and praise-worthy — but is also leading some to wonder where this support for kids was during the Black Lives Matters movement?

-I feel like Angelina Jolie has worn a version of this dress over and over.  It’s definitely got an Oscars 2014 vibe, with a dash of Critics Choice Awards 2015.

-I don’t understand this Us Weekly story about how Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton are putting their baby plans on hold. Why is her camp even putting this stuff out there? To what end?

-If you’ve seen Black Panther — and it seems like everyone in North America has — then you’ve probably debated with your friends just how villainous Killmonger is.  (I think that he’s sympathetic but ultimately is an oppressor just like the system he’s trying to fight against.) Ira at the Daily Beast probably has my favourite take on it so far: “Yes, Killmonger makes some really good points. But as [director Ryan] Coogler shows, we ought to look toward black women for morality in this world.”

In a new interview with the New York Times about the Me Too movement, Minnie Driver took another dig at ex-boyfriend Matt Damon, saying his comments “represented every intelligent, nice white male who feels it is their job to comment on the way that women metabolize stuff.”

-Speaking of MeToo, this cinematographer’s speech about how he wants to change the industry is amazing.

Megan Fox had some frank words about what it’s like to be an actress in Hollywood: “You’re a commodity. As long as you survive filming and they’ve gotten what they need from you they don’t really care if you drop dead afterwards. It doesn’t matter if you break an arm or you break a leg.”

David Cross says the cast of Arrested Development “stands behind” Jeffrey Tambor. I’m not sure this is a good look right now…

-This is terrible: Karla Souza, who plays Laurel on How to Get Away With Murder, says she was raped by a director while on a set in Mexico early in her career.

Eminem‘s “Till I Collapse” came out ages ago and still remains popular on Spotify — mostly because people still listen to it when working out. Mine remains Moby’s “Flower” — only because I keep stupidly attempting the Sally Up challenge.

Ryan Reynolds has no time for people who criticize his work with the Make-a-Wish Foundation.

-And Jennifer Lawrence has no time for your criticisms of her dress at Red Sparrow’s London photocall: “This is sexist, this is ridiculous, this is not feminism.”

-Meanwhile, Jennifer says she’s coming for Timothée Chalamet when he gets a bit older. “[I’m] buttering him up like a pig for slaughter, and then I’m going to swing right in there as soon as he’s, like, 30.” Uh, there may be a flaw in this plan…

-I follow Colton Haynes on Instagram (because he’s adorable!) and his IG Stories about his mom’s wait for a liver transplant have been heartbreaking.

-Nothing amuses me more than Americans slowly finding out that Tessa Virture and Scott Moir had a Canadian reality show.

Aaron Paul and his wife Lauren have named their daughter Story Annabelle and I kind of love it.

-If you dig behind-the-scenes peeks at TV shows, this is a very good look at how Crazy Ex-Girlfriend mapped out their most recent season.

Ellen had billionaire Bill Gates on and quizzed him about the prices of everyday items at the supermarket. He clearly never does laundry or buys pizza rolls, but he’s totally down with floss.
