Dolly Parton Gets a “Dose of Her Own Medicine”

–Dolly Parton got a vaccine and all is right with the world.

–Britney Spears‘ father says he “would love nothing more than to see her not need a conservatorship.” Well, that seems like an easy fix on his end.

-Meanwhile, she showed off a new photo of her sons, who are full-grown teenagers now.

-Gutting: Jahmil French, who played Dave Turner for several seasons on Degrassi: The Next Generation, has died at age 29.

-I mentioned yesterday how weird it was for Taylor Swift to call out an out-of-context joke on Ginny and Georgia. Now, Swifties are harassing the show’s young actress, Antonia Gentry.

-When they weren’t busy harassing her, they also went after John Mayer.

-Ex-Bachelorette Rachel Lindsay has spoken out after disabling her Instagram page because Chris Harrison fans (those exist?) were somehow blaming her for his absence.

–Armie Hammer reportedly moved out of his family home over the weekend “under the cover of night” — and the movers may have left a rope-bound mannequin in the trash.

–Alec and Hilaria Baldwin debuted their new baby girl yesterday on Instagram, just five months after she gave birth to a baby boy. When a commenter asked if they used a surrogate, he responded “You should shut the f–k up and mind your own business.” Their PR rep added: “We’re still not issuing a statement or confirming anything — what she posted stands.” Everyone’s entitled to privacy when it comes to this stuff, but “the post stands” is my new favourite “no comment.”

-Riverdale’s Cole Sprouse may be dating model Ari Fournier.

–George Clooney did a dramatic reading of BTS’ “Dynamite.”

–Ray Fisher shared new details of “racially discriminatory conversations” on the Justice League set and specifically called out Geoff Johns: “There will likely be attempts to shift blame completely onto Kevin Tsujihara and Joss Whedon. But make no mistake. Geoff Johns worked intimately with Joss to overhaul the entire Justice League script. And while Geoff was not credited as a co-writer of the film, he was certainly an enforcer of the race-based discrimination that occurred during his conversations with Toby and Jon.”

–T.I. will not return for Ant-Man 3 amid those sexual assault allegations.

-I can’t believe I’m typing these words, but the Dungeons & Dragons film sounds awesome. First Chris Pine signed on, then came Bridergton’s RegĂ©-Jean Page, and now Hugh Grant has been cast as villain.

-This is a good rundown of all the drama that’s been happening with YouTubers.

-Superman & Lois has been renewed for a second season at The CW — after airing only one episode. The premiere performed well multiplatform.

–Oprah‘s special with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle has found a British home — it’ll air on ITV in the UK.

-I gasped at nearly every new word in this headline: “Nicole Kidman, Cynthia Erivo, Merritt Wever, and Alison Brie to star in an Apple series about ‘what it means to be a woman’ from the creators of GLOW”.

-The Golden Globes ratings hit historic lows, losing 60% of viewers year over year. This, plus all the controversy about its voting members, makes me wonder if it will continue to be a major event going forward.

-The pandemic-related productions delays have finally caused a break in the era of peak TV.

-TikTok is being flooded with Tom Cruise deep fakes. These things are terrifying,

-The town of HĂşsavĂ­k got together to film a video about wanting an Oscar since the song from Eurovision is eligible for an Academy Award. The JA JA DING DONG guy even makes an appearance.

-This is a great piece on how Nomadland disrupts Hollywood’s fantasy of the drifter.

–Tye Sheridan and Lily-Rose Depp star in the Voyagers trailer, which looks like Lord of the Flies in space.

Lili Reinhart Denies Talking about Riverdale Costar Cole Sprouse

-In a revealing new interview, Riverdale actress Lili Reinhart opens up about going through heartbreak and depression (“The last couple of months have probably [been] the most emotional few months of my entire life and my therapist [told] me, ‘Your body’s going through withdrawal from love. You’re used to having this exchange of happy chemicals between you and the person that you’re with.’ In moments of my life, I have dropped every ounce of pride that I had just to be like, Love me. Please take the pain away for a day, a second, an hour, just so I can feel that fix again”), and her worries that her book of poetry might be misinterpreted (“I felt the need to write that because I was scared — and I am scared — that people are going to try and create their own idea of what my love life looked or looks like. I’m not saying, My boyfriend fucked another woman. I’m saying, I felt betrayed”). However, she later took to Twitter to clarify that her words are being taken out of context by some and she wasn’t talking about her recent split from costar Cole Sprouse, tweeting “I would never speak so candidly about something as personal as a breakup. That’s incredibly private. I was addressing my depression.”

-Meanwhile, Sprouse posted a photo of her on Instagram with the caption, “Lili and I initially separated in January of this year, deciding to more permanently split in March. What an incredible experience I had, I’ll always feel lucky and cherish that I had the chance to fall in love. I wish her nothing but the utmost love and happiness moving forward. All I’ll say about it, anything else you hear doesn’t matter.”

–In a new interview, Jennifer Aniston says she related to the scene in The Morning Show when her character stops herself from having a breakdown  and slaps on a smile. “There have been moments — not to that level of hysteria — but moments of ‘I don’t want to f**king go here,’ ‘I don’t want to walk out onto the carpet,’ ‘I don’t want to be seen,’ ‘I don’t want to be looked at and everyone’s going to be talking about me and judging me’ … that’s real. I just loved being able to walk into it and lean into it and not be ashamed of it, but actually just … it was like … Ooooooooooh.”

–Deuxmoi (which is quickly becoming a must-follow on IG for gossip hounds) has noticed that this small IG account that recaps celeb news has some very not-small followers, including Jennifer Aniston, Jimmy Kimmel and Sarah Jessica Parker. I’ve only checked out the last 3 posts but 2 of those bash Angelina Jolie.

–Britney Spears is seeking major changes to her conservatorship and wants to have her father removed as the sole conservator over her estate, preferring to keep her temporary court-appointed conservator in charge.

–Cardi B took to Twitter today to announce that she’s giving away $1 million dollars to “powerful women.” Just tweet her and tell her why you deserve it with the hashtag #WAPParty.

–Megan Thee Stallion posted a graphic photo of her gunshot wound and called out haters, writing “I got hit at the back of my feet because when I got shot I was WALKING AWAY FACING THE BACK. why would I lie abt getting shot? Why are y’all so upset that I don’t wanna be in the bed sad? Why y’all upset that I can walk?”

-The Glee cast can’t catch a break. Dianna Agron and Mumford & Sons’ Winston Marshall have reportedly split after three years of marriage.

–Brandy is on the cover of People, talking up about her decades-long battle with depression following a car accident that killed a woman, and how her daughter Sy’rai saved her. “I remember lying in bed super depressed. I [told] myself, ‘So, you’re just going to go out like this? That’s wack. You have a daughter. If you can’t do it for yourself, do it for her because this is not the way to leave a mark in her life.'” (Also, if you haven’t listened to her new album yet, you should. It slaps.)

–Ashley Benson was spotted with a diamond on her finger, leading to speculation that she’s engaged to G-Eazy. (With the mask, I seriously have no idea how any paparazzi recognized her. Should we just assume that any masked celebs who get papped at random spots set it up?)

-This is a very long, very smart take on Veronica Mars’ identity crisis in its later seasons.

–Prince Harry and Meghan Markle recently met with several networks, shopping a mysterious project to top execs. Let the speculation begin!

–Fiona Apple narrates a short film about how anyone can safely document arrests by ICE to hold the agency accountable.

-Gird your loiny bits: Brad Pitt and Harry Styles may soon be appearing in a movie together.

–Travis Scott covers the September issue of GQ and talks about his secret track for Christopher Nolan‘s Tenet and his dream of buying Astroworld.

–Tracee Ellis Ross says she fought to make sure her Black-ish character didn’t always look like a traditional sitcom wife. “What I did speak up about from the beginning was, ‘Why am I carrying laundry?’ ‘Why am I the person in the kitchen cooking right now, when this has nothing to do with the scene?’ Even sometimes when it does have something to do with the scene. I started coining them as ‘lady chores.’ ‘Why am I doing the lady chores? Can’t Anthony [Anderson] do the lady chore?'”

Ben Mulroney Takes a Step Back — Sort of

–Ben Mulroney stepped down as an anchor from eTalk this morning, following his wife’s racist actions. “I love my wife. However, it is not my place to speak for her and today, together, we are committed to doing the work to both learn and understand more about anti-Black racism as well as learn and understand more about our blind spots.” He added that he hopes eTalk will replace him with a more diverse voice. Interestingly, he will still do red carpet events for eTalk (i.e. – the plum assignments) and stay on as host of CTV’s Your Morning.

-Also, this is from The Sun so take it with a giant grain of salt, but they’re reporting that he was surprised by the lack of support from his coworkers. “Although some coworkers reached out, he was surprised many didn’t bother, despite the fact he’s worked there for 18 years. It was only decided last night he would step down from etalk.”

-In the final hours of Juneteenth 2020, Beyonce surprised the world with a new song called Black Parade. Lyrics include “Trust me, they gon’ need an army / Rubber bullets bouncin’ off me” and “Made a picket sign off your picket fence / Take it as a warning?”

-Variety’s Actors on Actors interviews are taking place over Zoom this year, and first up is Jennifer Aniston and Lisa Kudrow. Aniston talks about her character’s breakdown in the last episode of The Morning Show, while Kudrow says she hasn’t rewatched Friends because she’s hoping to sit down with the cast one day and watch it together.

-RIP, director Joel Schumacher. Not only did he give us movies like Lost Boys, St. Elmo’s Fire and two Batman films, he also gifted us with that Vulture interview where he said he’d slept with 20k people, claimed Tommy Lee Jones was an asshole, and said Val Kilmer was psychotic.

-Speaking of Batman, this is wild: Michael Keaton is reportedly in talks to replace Ben Affleck as the DCEU’s Batman, appearing in The Flash movie. I love the idea of Keaton taking up the cowl again, but I’m surprised that the Flashpoint film is going forward following the Erza Miller stuff.

-Accusations of sexual assault by celebs were flying fast and furious on Twitter this weekend. Two users accused Justin Bieber of alleged incidents in 2014 and 2015 and he responded to one of them with 15(!) tweets about why he couldn’t have been there.

-Meanwhile, Riverdale’s Cole Sprouse and Lili Reinhart are denying accusations of sexual assault that surfaced on Twitter over the weekend.

–Ansel Elgort broke his silence on last week’s sexual assault claims on Sunday with an Instagram post, saying the relationship in question was “brief, legal and entirely consensual.” He says he ghosted her, implying that’s why she’s retaliated.

-After last week’s Twitter outcry, five women talked to the Chicago Tribune to detail Chris D’Elia’s alleged sexual improprieties.

-The Golden Globes, hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, just announced a move from Jan 5 to Feb 28, 2021, Oscar’s original airdate.

-This is a great story about how two guys made their short film the top-grossing movie, even though they filmed it entirely on Zoom with a budget of zero dollars, and only screened it once at a single theater.

–Brad Pitt surprised a sanitation worker on Harry Connick Jr.’s CBS special.

-Netflix announced that Lucifer will return in August — and they did it with a super horned up video.

-K-pop fans may not have prevented people from going to Trump’s rally, but they did basically make any data the campaign was hoping to use for retargeting junk.

–Jon Stewart’s Irresistible, starring Steve Carell and Rose Bryne, is getting bad reviews. One critic tweeted it’s “stupefyingly bad & unfunny.”

-The Hamilton trailer has landed. On Twitter, Lin-Manuel Miranda explained that they dropped two of the show’s three f-words in order to get a Disney+ approved PG-13 rating.
