The Good Wife Delivers One Final Bitch Slap to Fans

the good wife finale julianna marguiles

The Good Wife finale was…not good. I hate procedurals but somehow got sucked into this show because the weekly cases/trials were so weird and riveting, and yet they ended on the most confusing non-case ever. (Did Peter do it? Did the police “pit” the bullets? How did Kurt answer the affair question on the stand?) But even worse, a show that’s been historically very feminist saw the lead character needing her life mansplained by a ghost, her political future decided without her, and her final showdown a catfight about a man she doesn’t even want to be with anymore. Jesus. A few critics seemed to like the bitter, cynical ending (she winds up with no job, no friends, no boyfriend, no husband, no kids — who she recently admitted she didn’t like anyway), but it didn’t feel in any way earned.

-Also, when the showrunners feel the need to explain the ending? Not great, Bob.

Idris Elba is no longer single. Sigh. I’m mean, I love him so logically I’m really happy for him to be reunited with his baby mama. But my heart guts say otherwise…

Victoria Beckham says they’d cut her mic off during the Spice Girls concerts and let the other girls handle the singing, but she was cool with it because she was the only one who got Gucci dresses. Not having to work AND getting free clothes? Teach me your ways!

-Can anyone confirm if the Living Proof company that helped produce that the miracle wrinkle-reducing lotion that everyone’s talking about is the same Living Proof that Jennifer Aniston‘s associated with? Cause if so, she’s now controlling the entire world.

-Captain America: Civil War has a worldwide haul of $678 million after just 12 days in release, which means that even if it suffers a Batman v Superman-level crash, it’ll still hit the $1B milestone. [*whispers* I thought Civil War was kind of boring]

-Sadness: Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne are splitting after 33 years(!) of marriage.

-“Without Jen, there’s no #Alias.” Here’s an oral history of the show, featuring Jennifer Garner, J.J. Abrams and more.  I recently rewatched the pilot, and it still holds up as one of my fave first eps ever.

Blac Chyna is pregnant. Does this mean I have to finally figure out who this person is? Sigh.

-Have you seen the quiz associated with Channing Tatum’s live Magic Mike show in Vegas? It’s feminist slant is making me swoon.

-Also, it took me way too long to discover this delightful interview with Channing and Carly Fleischmann, who is autistic and non-verbal.

-Even sampling Hillary Clinton’s speech can’t turn Jennifer Lopez‘s “Ain’t Your Mama” into a good song.

Lauren Hill has apologized for being two hours late for her Atlanta show, saying “I have nothing but Love and respect for my fans. The challenge is aligning my energy with the time.” Frankly though, if you’re buying a ticket to a LH show in 2016 and expecting her to show up on time, you’re an idiot. She’s been consistently pulling this crap for years.

Brie Larson had a big weekend. She hosted SNL and got engaged to longtime boyfriend Alex Greenwald.

Tom Brady and Gisele are releasing a $200 cookbook (even though all past references to their diet have been beyond depressing).

-Ruh roh. Selena Gomez was spotted with Orlando Bloom again.

-I see Johnny Depp is taking his dog smuggling apology very seriously.

Nardwuar has a new interview with Drake and it’s great. Also, the fact that Drake has seriously thought about what song he’s going to play at his wedding is … something.

-I’m very intrigued about which TV shows this writer is ranting on Twitter about. (I’m guessing Sleepy Hollow and Castle?). I disagree with his assertion that its critics’ jobs to be calling out actors who use medical excuses to get out of a series, but still.

Kate Hudson‘s performance of “Nothing Compares 2 U” is surprisingly pretty great.

-Meanwhile, Nick Jonas was grilled by Ellen on his relationship with Kate Hudson.

Aaron Paul, Amanda Seyfried and Russell Crowe get emotional in the Fathers and Daughters trailer.

Game of Thrones Trailer Pits Tyrion Against Dragons

-I had given up on Game of Thrones, but now that Andy Greenwald and Chris Ryan are doing the aftershow I guess I’m back in? Dammit show, why can’t I quit you?! At least the new trailer looks intriguing.

Scarlett Johansson implied she and Ryan Reynolds were too competitive to be compatible. That seems like a diplomatic way of calling him a jerk. Well done.

Hugh Dancy just joined the cast of Fifty Shades Darker. The fact that they keep adding to this movie — which is actively shooting — is fascinating. What the hell is happening on that set?

-Way to COMPLETELY miss the point of Hamilton, New York Times!

John Oliver hilariously tackled credit reports last night.

-I gave up on Sleepy Hollow after season one, but I can’t believe what I read happened in Friday’s episode. No wonder Twitter was lit. Vulture and Black Girl Nerds both posted excellent, merciless breakdowns of how the writers destroyed their own show. Also, I guess we now know the answer to that TV blind item from a few weeks ago.

-Speaking of which, it was a brutal week for killing off major female TV characters.

Gary Oldman is shading Spotlight’s Oscar win, for some random reason.

-This oral history of the late, great sitcom Happy Endings is wonderful…with the exception of this Eliza Coupe quote: “My best friends are both my brothers, and I don’t really have any girlfriends. It’s not that I don’t get along with women, it’s that they bore me.” Like…what?

-I liked Jessica Chastain’s dress…but it was way not appropriate for the MTV Movie Awards. Where exactly did her publicist tell her she was going?

-The best part of Rebel Wilson and Adam Devine’s kiss at the MTV Awards is how presenter Stephen Amell is awkwardly standing off to the side.

-I actually liked the new Suicide Squad trailer they showed at the MTV Awards last night. Clearly, BvS has taught me nothing.

-The new Captain America clip they showed at the MTV Awards is very action-y.

-The first press screenings for Captain America: Civil War happened this weekend, and the tweets about it were overwhelmingly glowing.

-The trailer for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them looks pretty damn spectacular.

Captain America: Civil War – Are You #TeamIronMan or #TeamCap?

-Here’s the final Captain America: Civil War trailer. I kind of feel like I’m going to be siding with Tony Stark over Captain America, and that’s a *weird* feeling for me. Also: hey, Spidey!

-Meanwhile, Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr, Sebastian Stan, Chadwick Boseman and The Russo Brothers participated in a very fun Tumblr Q&A today.

-Vox’s chart explaining the extended Kardashian universe is very helpful. (Sidenote: I almost tried on a very adorable dress last night, until I realized it was from Kendall and Kylie’s label. Hard pass.)

Sarah Michelle Gellar celebrated the 19th anniversary of Buffy’s premiere with a very sweet post.

Ryan Gosling is still a perfect human being, just in case you were starting to have doubts.

-How great do Zendaya, Willow Smith and Kiernan Shipka look on the cover of W? Slay, girls!

Gwen Stefani talked about her divorce, saying Blake Shelton went through “literally the exact same thing.” Oh, so Miranda slept with a nanny too?

-Speaking of the love lives of Voice coaches (damn, that’s a depressing sentence), Adam Levine is going to be a daddy.

Ryan Reynolds & Blake Lively will attend tonight’s Justin Trudeau state dinner so I’m anticipating a lot of hazy Instagram filters will be used.

Ashton Kutcher gets shirtless and swears a lot in the first trailer for The Ranch, the Netflix comedy he stars in with That 70s Show costar Danny Masterson. Holy crap, is that a laugh track?!

-The Britney Spears I saw in Vegas in May 2014 is clearly not the same one performing today.

Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck still haven’t filed for divorce, and everyone’s wondering why because they’re clearly not remember BvS’ upcoming release. Come on, guys. Be better at this.

James Corden forced Will Arnett to explain a picture of him high-fiving Donald Trump. Fair.

-Here’s the first trailer for Andy Samberg‘s movie Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping! It had me as soon as I saw Joan Cusack as his coke snorting mom and Snoop as his dad.
