Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss Reunite for The Matrix 4

The-Matrix-4

-I love this EW spread on Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss, who discuss their new Matrix movie and their 20-plus years of friendship. “We’ve been through this experience together as partners. The only way I can describe it is like a soul friendship.”

Zendaya and Tom Holland made their red carpet debut as a couple last night.  I adored her archive Roberto Cavalli dress!

-The Gotham Awards were last night, giving us a better idea of what’s shaping up to have Oscar buzz. Maggie Gyllenhaal won three awards for her directorial debut, The Lost Daughter, as did Apple’s CODA.

-Meanwhile, Kristen Stewart was honoured with the Performer Tribute Award.

-I guess that DeuxMoi blind was right and Shawn Mendes’ breakup song is coming tomorrow.

Rihanna was honoured in her native Barbados during its presidential inauguration, with the Prime Minister calling her “the national hero of Barbados.”

-Meanwhile, there’s lots of rumours flying around about Rihanna being pregnant but it doesn’t sound legit.

-The story of Adam McKay and Will Ferrell’s falling out is epically sad. Dudes just won’t talk about their feelings, huh?

-I’m loving that Ben McKenzie is sounding the alarm about cryptocurrency. Ryan Atwood grew up good!

-Oh no! The NFT craze has gotten to Harry Styles.

-Love is dead. Hamilton’s Anthony Ramos and Jasmine Cephas Jones have broken up after 6 years together, and it sounds like it might be messy.

-Speaking of messy splits, Aaron Carter and fiancée Melanie Martin have broken up a week after their son’s birth, with him tweeting “I was deceived and lied to. I can’t believe she betrayed [me] this way.”

Adele announced a 12-weekend residency at Caesars Palace in Vegas.

-Bruised must be doing well on Netflix: Halle Berry just struck a multi-picture deal with the streamer.

-Kevin Can F**k Himself will come to an end with its second season.  It’s too bad — it felt like the show was finding itself at the end of last season.

Britney Spears is really happy about lighting candles. Whatever works!

-This is perfect casting: Nic Cage is making his big studio return, signing on to play Dracula opposite Nicholas Hoult‘s Renfield in Universal’s new monster movie.

-I’m surprised how many critics who’s opinions I usually align with are raving over West Side Story.

-I don’t really care if it makes me basic or local or whatever; I’m increasingly looking forward to And Just Like That with each new trailer.

Adam Brody & Ben McKenzie Have Big Baby News (Unrelated, Sadly)

Adam Brody and Ben McKenzie in The O.C.
Adam Brody and Ben McKenzie in The O.C. (Fox)

-It’s a huge day for The OC alums. Adam Brody and Leighton Meester welcomed a baby girl (who they adorably named Arlo Day), while Ben McKenzie is reportedly expecting a baby with Gotham costar Morena Baccarin. The pregnancy bombshell dropped in the middle of her divorce case, so this should be interesting…

-Congrats to Usher and Grace Miguel, who tied the knot.

-Oof. This comparision of critical reactions to Ryan Adams‘ cover version of 1989 versus Taylor Swift’s original work is devastatingly sexist.

-Rumours of trouble in Gisele Bundchen and Tom Brady’s marriage continue to swirl.

-I’m kind of loving Jimmy Kimmel‘s new method of making stars read mean tweets live, especially when it’s clear that they didn’t sneak a peek beforehand. Andrew Garfield’s reaction to being compared to a pedophile who lives in an RV is priceless.

Jimmy Fallon got Keenan & Kel to reunite on his show for a “Good Burger” sketch and it was wonderful.

-This is great: the ladies of The Office recreated a photo they took five years ago. I really had to squint to figure out which one was the new one, which I guess means they’re all aging really well!

-I really liked the bits in this article talking about what a tough interview Shonda Rhimes is.

-Also, if you’re tweeting about Scandal’s premiere tonight and don’t like Olitz (because you’re a sane, rational person), you might want to avoid using the #Scandal hashtag. It’ll automatically add a ‘shippery emoji to your tweet.

Pierce Brosnan doesn’t have high hopes for the next James Bond: “Anything is possible for sure, but I think he’ll be male and he’ll be white.”

Robert Pattinson admits that Twihards “drove him crazy.” Gee, ya think?

-Even Ryan Reynolds can’t figure out how to build IKEA units.

Kanye West sees himself as a 17-year-old adopted child of the fashion industry. Well, he’s got the “child” part right…

Maggie Gyllenhaal just joined James Franco‘s HBO series about porn, which means we all have to watch it now. Sigh.

-My feelings for Terrence Howard prevent me from watching Empire, but damn this picture of its writers’ room makes me think they’re doing something right.

-Also last night’s Empire premiere got a 16M viewers and a 6.5 rating in the A18-49 demo. That’s INSANE these days. It certainly dominated my Twitter TL all night. (My favourite part of this ratings article is the last line: “At 10 p.m., Nashville (5 million, 1.3) existed.”)

-Guys, I would totally eat at Gwyneth Paltrow’s food truck. I can’t be alone in this, right?!

Jeff Daniels explains the stakes in this new clip from The Martian.

Kerry Washington, Taraji P. Henson and Mary J. Blige’s Awesome Apple Ad

-The Emmys were great, but Apple was the night’s biggest winner for tapping Kerry WashingtonTaraji P. Henson, and Mary J. Blige for this excellent Apple Music commercial, directed by Ava DuVernay.

-Kerry also wore one of my favourite dresses of the night, as did Alison Janney. My least favourite dress was Tracee Ellis-Ross‘.

Amy Schumer says Jennifer Lawrence texted her after her Emmys win. “She said that I looked pretty but not smart.” Ha!

-In his (well deserved) acceptance speech last night, Jon Hamm thanked ex-girlfriend Jennifer Westfeldt and their dog Cora. The other people he mentioned were mostly school parents at John Burroughs in St. Louis who took him in after his mom died of colon cancer when he was 10.

-Another emotional moment was Tracy Morgan’s triumphant return.

-The red carpet questions that came in last night for Amy Poehler‘s Smart Girls #AskHerMore campaign were great.

-Orphan Black’s Tatiana Maslany and Kristian Bruun are on this week’s Comedy Bang Bang podcast (the CBB team wrote most of Samberg‘s jokes last night, which is largely why the Emmys didn’t suck this year).

-Yes, Tatiana Maslany lost last night, but it was hard to feel bad about Viola Davis‘ epic, historic win. She’s the first black woman to win Best Actress in a Drama, and her speech was amazing. (Her statements were punctuated by the Game Of Thrones’ creators, who thanked HBO for giving them breaks despite their total lack of experience.)

-Of course, Viola‘s win was immediately met with controversy after some soap star starting shooting her mouth off about how Davis has never been discriminated against and how her speech was too dramatic. Ugh.

-Speaking of actors who’ve imploded on Twitter, Stephen Amell has finally (FINALLY!) apologized. He posted a mea culpa in response to a fan who sent him an excellent video about why his comments hurt her. My only wish is that he’d shared his comment to his main Facebook page instead of just replying to her video post (where most of his fans will never see it), but at least he’s redeemed himself a bit.

-This is probably a really good time to link to Jay Smooth’s excellent video on how to process celebrities and bigotry.

-Speaking of diversity in Hollywood, I really liked this interview with Fresh Off the Boat’s Constance Wu in GQ. “I was talking to a friend the other day about HBO’s Togetherness. I was like, ‘It’s a show about white people.’ And he said ‘Oh, come on, they’re just people.’ But if somebody says my show is about Asian American people, nobody bats an eye.”

Amy Poehler and Elizabeth Banks just landed new sitcom deals.

-Every review I’ve read for season 2 of Gotham (which returns tonight) says the show has finally found its focus — but no one really seems to like what that focus is.

-Also, Gotham costars Morena Baccarin and Ben McKenzie are apparently dating. Way to go, Ryan Atwood!

Allison Williams got married this weekend — and Tom Hanks officiated it!

Orlando Bloom and Kendall Jenner may be “secretly dating”? He’s 38 and Kendall is 19, which explains the “secret” part. Wasn’t he once linked with Selena Gomez? What’s wrong with this guy? Is he allergic to appropriateness?

-The new Chvches album AND Ryan Adams‘ cover of Taylor Swift‘s 1989 are both streaming online today. Nobody talk to me for the next 19 hours, kthxbai.

-How have I never seen this Kleenex commercial of Tom Hardy crying while cradling a puppy? HOW???!?

-This 400 Days trailer is stacked with a lot of TV people I adore.
