Chris Evans Sends Captain American Shield To Young Hero

–Chris Evans sent an incredibly sweet video message to Bridger, the little boy who protected his sister from a dog attack. Anne Hathaway, Mark Ruffalo, Winston Duke and other stars have also shouted him out.

-This 5-minute video of Henry Cavill building a computer from scratch is simultaneously hot and relaxing.

-The Bold Type’s Aisha Dee, who plays Kat, posted about her frustration over the lack of diversity behind the scenes of the show. She also echoed many fans’ disappointment for her character’s bizarre new relationship with a rich conservative woman, saying that it felt “felt confusing and out of character.” She added, “It was heartbreaking to watch Kat’s story turn into a redemption story for someone else, someone who is complicit in the oppression of so many. Someone whose politics are actively harmful to her communities.” The season finale airs tonight, ending an abbreviated season after production was shut down due to covid.

-With Britney Spears‘ conservatorship nearing its August 22 deadline, #FreeBritney is trending again. Anyone who follows gossip has known for years how messed up her situation is, but now it seems to finally be hitting mainstream consciousness, with multiple sites posting backgrounders this week.

-It’s also in the news because her mother Lynne Spears has filed a legal request to be more in the know about “all matters” surrounding Britney’s finances and trust.

–Cory Monteith‘s mom talked about his friendship with Naya Rivera in an emotional Instagram post.

–Cardi B is defending Offset’s present to their two-year-old daughter: a $20k Birken bag.

-In Johnny Depp‘s libel case, the court heard a witness statement provided by Winona Ryder: “I understand that it is very important that I speak from my own experience, as I obviously was not there during his marriage to Amber, but, from my experience, which was so wildly different, I was absolutely shocked, confused and upset when I heard the accusations against him. The idea that he is an incredibly violent person is the farthest thing from the Johnny I knew and loved. I cannot wrap my head around these accusations. He was never, never violent towards me. He was never, never abusive at all towards me. He has never been violent or abusive towards anybody I have seen.” Vanessa Paradis‘ statement was also read, in which she said: “This is nothing like the true Johnny I have known, and from my personal experience of many years, I can say he was never violent or abusive to me.”

–Amanda Peet and Sarah Paulson did a wonderfully chaotic IG Live for Instyle. (This short clip perfectly sums up the energy.) They call each other “Bird” and have been friends since Jack & Jill, a terrible show I used to love.

-Barely 24 hours after NBC’s new streaming service Peacock launched, some movies are already being removed. So strange, especially since one of the movies is Shrek, which was a major part of their marketing.

-God lord, the new Brad Pitt interview in GQ brought me endless amounts of joy today. Reading it was like playing “faux-deep thoughts” bingo. Therapy talk? Check! A mention of his new matcha tea ritual? Check! A David Foster Wallace quote? Check!  Talk about his new understanding of R&B? Referring to his face as “this façade”? Check! A Churchill quote? Check!  The whole article is so beautiful I’m tempted to get it laminated…

–Mark Hamill is the latest Star Wars star to prank some unsuspecting fans and their reactions were priceless.

-Yes, Stephen Colbert’s joke was really, really dumb — but the campaign to get him fired is even dumber.

-This new featurette on The Mummy actually makes it look…good?

-Congrats to Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Tasha McCauley, who are expecting their second child. I didn’t even know they had a first!

–Chris Evans says it’s “beyond misplaced” to glibly criticize Jimmy Kimmel‘s healthcare monologue.  Listen to Captain America!

-In any case, the monologue already has incredible reach.

–Sofia Vergara took to Instagram to slam Star magazine for “fake” report about a divorce from Joe Manganiello, saying “The editor of this mag is an idiot.”

-This is a great take on how Marvel is undercutting Wonder Woman with their lack of promotion.

–Amanda Peet looks back on her biggest roles and it’s kind of amazing how much she’s done.  I kind of love that she’s still not ok with Bent being cancelled.

-The Flash’s big reveal on this week’s episode revealed the show’s biggest flaw: its own formula.

-I guess we shouldn’t be surprised that The Handmaid’s Tale is getting a second season, but the first season covers the whole book so what are they going to do?

-A new report says that unlike what we’d expect, Kate and William don’t have a lot of staff to help them out at home.

-The Dark Tower trailer is here and the reviews are mixed. I’m ok with it, but it definitely feels like it gives way, way too much away.

–The Defenders trailer is getting a lot of love, mostly because it makes fun of Iron Fist a lot. This moment in particular is getting mocked a bunch. (I think it’s a special kind of actor who knows what to do in the background during a group fight scene when it’s not “their turn” — and then there’s this type.

Channing Tatum’s Abs Are Everywhere (But We’re Not Complaining)

–Channing Tatum‘s abs are all over the magazine stand this week. The People cover is slightly more restrained than EW’s (which made me lots of friends on the subway last night), but it’s still pretty ab-tastic.

-I’m going to see Magic Mike XXL tonight (holla!). Here’s Channing Tatum and Jimmy Fallon performing scenes written by elementary school kids who were only given the title of the movie.

–Will Arnett is single again and spends every night crying himself to sleep knowing that he let precious unicorn Amy Poehler go (I might be making assumptions about that last part…)

–Harris Wittels‘ sister wrote a piece for HuffPo on her late brother and dear god it’s a heart blender.

–Kanye West and Kim Kardashian continue to bend the universe to their will.

-I didn’t love Dave Eggers‘ The Circle, but I’ve got nothing but love at the news that Emma Watson and Tom Hanks will star in the adaptation.

–Chris Martin and Kylie Minogue were spotted looking cozy together in London. They’ve been friends for ages, but they make so much more sense than him and JLaw, no?

-God bless Chris Rock for calling out Terrence Howard’s violent past…in front of Terrence Howard.

–Leonardo DiCaprio just invested in a mattress company.

–Rick Ross has been arrested on assault and kidnapping charges because of course. He’s been denied bail and is currently being held in Fayette County Jail.

-There are rumours that Ben Affleck just landed a deal to direct his own solo Batman movie. Wouldn’t it just be cheaper to film himself jerking off?

-A new Arrow blooper reel? Gimme!

-Speaking of Arrow, The CW just announced that all of their shows won’t return until October. Stop trying to make me get a life, CW!

-FNL & Parenthood creator Jason Katims got yet another TV deal? He’s pretty much going to be responsible for all of TV soon…which doesn’t sound so bad, actually.
