Adam Brody Reminisces about The OC

Adam Brody was a guest on the latest episode of the OC recap podcast, and the entire conversation is a delight. He and ex-girlfriend Rachel Bilson reminisce about the show, analyze Seth Cohen’s legacy, and argue about whether or not he costarred with her in Jumper. They were supposed to recap the third season episode “The Strip” but they talked so much they had to split it into two episodes.

-Everyone is still trying to make Chris Evans and Selena Gomez happen. Unsubscribe.

-The Crown is set to defy the express wishes of Prince William in its upcoming season by including a dramatized version of Princess Diana‘s interview with Martin Bashir. As it is believed the Netflix drama will recreate the infamous moment she tells the BBC ‘there were three of us in this marriage.’

-A “live” round was used in the gun that killed Rust cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, the Santa Fe Sheriff’s Department and the Santa Fe County District Attorney said in a press conference today. They added that it’s too early to determine whether charges would be filed.

-Rust’ armorer told investigators that live ammunition was not used on the set, while the first assistant director told investigators that he did not check all three rounds in a handgun before giving it to Alec Baldwin and declaring it a “cold gun.” He acknowledged he should have done so.

-There’s been a lot of talk about the inexperienced crew/below the line workers on the set of Rust, but I think this article is the first I’ve seen to put more blame (rightly) on the producers.

Ioan Gruffudd‘s split from wife Alice Evans continues to be messy. Just as he went Instagram official with his new girlfriend, she’s accusing him of a three-year affair.

Skeet Ulrich initially thought Matthew Lillard and Jamie Kennedy were ruining Scream by improving jokes. “[I was] like, ‘This isn’t funny. This isn’t supposed to be funny.’ And man, was I wrong.”

Tom Holland says that he can’t wait for people to see one particular scene in Spider-Man: No Way Home. “It’s one of the coolest scenes I’ve ever shot… it’s four people sitting at a table, having a conversation about what it’s like to be a superhero, and it was amazing.” It’s got to be with all the other actors who played Peter Parker who are rumoured to appear, right?

Britney Spears‘ fiancé Sam Asghari has been cast in an action movie alongside (ugh) Mel Gibson.

Kevin Hart takes a dramatic turn in Netflix’s upcoming seven-episode drama Matter of Life and Death, costarring Wesley Snipes. Watch the first trailer here.

-A new trailer for House Of Gucci shows Lady Gaga meeting Adam Driver. Oh my god, these accents!

-A new Wheel of Time trailer has dropped. GQ recently did a huge profile on the new Amazon show, and the scale and expense of this thing is insane. (The piece also does a good job of capturing the actors’ dawning realization that if this turns in to the next Game of Thrones like Jeff Bezos wants it to, they could be filming in Prague for the next 5-10 years.)

Chris Evans voices the original Buzz Lightyear in Pixar’s upcoming Lightyear movie (though he only says the word “and” in the trailer). Director Angus MacLane told Entertainment Weekly to not think of Lightyear as being set in the world of Toy Story. “It’s a straightforward sci-fi action film about the Buzz Lightyear character…It’s that character but as the space ranger, not as the toy.” Is it just me, or is that a fundamental misunderstanding about what audiences want to see of these characters?

Tatiana Maslany Keeps Us Guessing About She-Hulk

-Remember a month ago when I mentioned that I was on a Zoom call with Tatiana Maslany and she said she’s not doing She-Hulk? She just said it again and the headlines are everywhere. My guess remains the same: that she’s doing it but sworn to keep it under wraps until there’s an official announcement. The original story in the trades was based on “sources” — and Scarlett Johansson was denying a Black Widow movie up until about a month before filming started.

Armie Hammer is now seeking joint custody and requesting his ex return to the U.S. from the Cayman Islands. Elizabeth Chambers filed for divorce from Hammer in July, seeking primary physical custody of their two children.

-I’m sure the Daily Mail is just reaching for headlines, but I’m choosing to believe this story about Dominic West being terrorized by squirrels.

Taryn Manning is claiming DWTS invited her to join the cast “many times,” but the show has a different take: “Her representation attempted to pitch her to us a while back and we kindly passed. So her claim that she was asked to join ‘DWTS’ once, never mind many times, is completely false.”

Jacob Tremblay portrays a young Justin Bieber in the new video for “Lonely.” This is scary good casting.

-Meanwhile, Bieber is this week’s musical guest on SNL, with Issa Rae hosting.

-Fans put a damper on Bieber‘s big week by camping outside his home. He posted on IG Stories: “This is not a hotel. It’s my home. How do you convince yourself it’s not completely inappropriate and disrespectful to wait outside my home to gawk, stare and take pictures as I walk into my apartment?”

Dwyane Wade was walking on the beach and happened to pass by a proposal. His reaction is everything.

-In a charming new interview with The Ringer, Adam Brody discusses how many people re-watching The OC now find his character mean (“I totally understand that about Seth and I can even see it without seeing it again. I mean, I don’t recall him doing anything brave and I don’t just mean physically brave”) and talks about being a feminist (“I’m not an activist, but I do feel that I’m pretty aware and my wife [Leighton Meester] helps me a lot. My wife is a feminist and has been for a long time, so she helps me a lot. Although I think we’ve all had our eyes opened even more so these last handful of years, but we’re all still learning and certainly I am. I like to think of myself as a feminist. I don’t know if I fully live up to that or not”).

-Speaking of charming interviews, You’re The Worst’s Chris Greere interviews former costar Aya Cash about her role on The Boys.

Harvey Weinstein‘s lawyers claim he will likely die in prison if not freed. [*crickets*]

Miley Cyrus is reviving her Backyard Sessions for a special episode of MTV’s Unplugged series. This is such a clever way to do content in quarantine.

-I don’t believe a digit of Netflix’s ratings reports, but they are saying that Ratched is the most watched original program in 2020. I wonder if even they care that it was so horribly received?

-Bridgerton is being made into a series by Shonda Rhimes? Yes, please!

Ethan Hawke had to shoot his appearance on Desus & Mero last night from an empty hotel ballroom in Ireland because he was having wi-fi issues in his room. Still managed to be charming af tho.

David Byrne’s American Utopia debuts on Crave this weekend and it’s so, so good. It’s directed by Spike Lee and is one of my fave films of the year so far. It’s joyous and thought-provoking and made me get up and dance multiple times (watching films at home is one benefit of movies going straight to streaming).

Charlie Hunnam plays a bare-knuckle boxer reluctantly traveling across the country with his brother for one last fight in Jungleland. It took me halfway through the trailer for me to realize I saw this at last year’s TIFF. I really liked the girl from The End of the F**king World in it.

Jodie Turner-Smith, Anjelica Huston and Florence Welch for Gucci’s “Bloom”

Gucci’s new ad campaign features Anjelica Huston, Jodie Turner-Smith and Florence Welch. And it’s soundtracked by a Mazzy Star song! I immediately want to buy whatever perfume they’re selling.

Rooney Mara and Joaquin Phoenix welcomed their first child together — a boy they named River in honor of Phoenix’s brother, the famous actor who died in 1993. I have to go cry forever.

-Another surprise celeb baby arrival: Amanda Seyfried and Thomas Sadoski welcomed a son.

-In other baby news, Game of Thrones stars Kit Harrington and Rose Leslie are expecting.

-The Demi Lovato/Max Ehrich split is getting messy messier. She’s reportedly embarrassed after he claimed on social media that he found out about their breakup through the media and that she’s allowing him to be “bullied” by her fans.

Gwyneth Paltrow celebrated her 48th birthday by posting a nude photo on Instagram and frankly, why not?

-In an interview with Empire, Sienna Miller revealed that Chadwick Boseman had taken a cut on his salary for 21 Bridges in order to fix the salary disparity she was facing. He told her: “You’re getting paid what you deserve, and what you’re worth.”

Eddie Redmayne (who once problematically played a trans woman) tries to have it both ways in a new interview: both decrying the hatred trans people get but jumping to J.K. Rowling’s defense.  “Though he disagreed with Rowling’s comments on the issue, he was alarmed by the ‘vitriol’ hurled at her on social media, which he termed ‘absolutely disgusting’, and which prompted him to write her a private note.”  I mean, if she didn’t want any vitriol directed her way, she could always stop baiting the entire internet?

-All heroes let you down eventually. It’s Sex Pistols’ John Lydon’s turn today.

-It’s wild to me that Katherine McPhee has been courting her gay fanbase for years, and yet is a Trump supporter.

-Meanwhile, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson endorsed Biden and the replies to his tweet are so, so disturbing. (Of course, many of them are bots.)

-In Mariah Carey‘s new book, she says she secretly recorded a grunge rock album in the ’90s. She’s since tweeted that she’s on “a quest to unearth the version of this album with my lead vocals and will not stop until we find it.”

-I kind of like the new pop-punky Machine Gun Kelly and Halsey song — which makes me hate myself a little.

-The fact that Beth Grant keeps replying to this tweet about how she’s been in everything and giving tidbits about each acting role is the wholesome Twitter content I need right now.

James Cameron says Avatar 2 is “100% done” filming and Avatar 3 is “95% complete” because they’ve been shooting in New Zealand. “We’re able to operate. We’re able to shoot and have a more or less normal life here. We were very fortunate, so I don’t see any roadblocks to us getting the picture finished, getting both pictures finished.” Sure, but do we believe him?

-The World’s A Little Blurry, the new documentary on Billie Eilish, is set to hit theaters and Apple TV Plus early next year.

-Julie and the Phantoms actor Jeremy Shada and his wife are selling t-shirts based on fan art and it all seems quite shady. There are whole think pieces to be written on fandoms who produce creative works and how their free labour is used.

-13 Reasons Why star Anne Winters really, really wants to play Madonna in the new biopic and doesn’t care who knows. This seems so thirsty to me but I guess you gotta do what you gotta do these days.

-The BTS boys just became millionaires today (and their producer became a billionaire) thanks to an impressive initial public offering of their label Big Hit Entertainment.

-I’m going to incorporate Rihanna’s “but continue” rebuttal into every terrible work email I have to reply to from now on.

-Gilmore Girls costars Keiko Agena (Lane Kim) and Adam Brody (Dave Rygalski) came together on Instagram Live to discuss the ways in which they’re getting involved ahead of the election.

-YouTube beauty star Jeffree Star reportedly took somewhere between $350,000 to $1 million in PPP loans designed to help small business owners during covid.

Richard Jenkins plays a fast food employee who must train a new person before he retires in the trailer for The Last Shift.
