CW Plans Superhero Spinoff of Arrow/Flash

flash arrow spinoff

-An Arrow/Flash spinoff is in the works for the CW, and it sounds awesome. It’s like a Super Friends starring both shows most memorable superhero guest stars, including Brandon Routh, Wentworth Miller, Caity Lotz and Victor Garber (I’m assuming Robbie Amell is still in negotiations, since he’s the other half of Garber’s Firestorm). I’m not sure exactly how it’s going to work since one of those actors’ characters recently died.

-Speaking of superhero TV, the Supergirl casting continues to be great — and now really meta. They just cast Dean Cain and Helen Slater.

-I don’t think we need a Blade Runner sequel (especially since the ending on the director’s cut is perfection), but good on Canadian director  Denis Villeneuve for landing the gig.

-Speaking of remakes no one asked for, Blake Lively will star in a remake of At First Sight.

-Leave John Travolta alone, says Scarlett Johansson.

-The new Game of Thrones Season 5 poster is pretty great (and supports the theory that Daenerys will be interacting with characters like Tyrion this season). There’s also some new clips.

David O. Russell reportedly pulled a David O. Russell by getting into a screaming match with Jennifer Lawrence.

-I will never tire of reading an actor’s food diary. Not ever.

R.I.P. Leonard Nimoy. His appearance in this Bruno Mars video (as well as this Simpsons episode) will make me laugh forever.

-Looking for something to watch this weekend? The Oscar-winning documentary CitizenFour is now streaming online for free. I haven’t seen it yet but my brother gave it two big thumbs up.

-Here’s our first look at Eddie Redmayne as transgender pioneer Lili Elbe in The Danish Girl. So basically, just give him the Oscar now.

Ryan Phillippe is in a new series called Secrets & Lies, which debuts Sunday (I saw the first episode; it’s surprisingly ok, but Juliette Lewis is horrendously miscast). During the lead up, he’s done a lot of press, including this hilariously gonzo interview with Elle in which he casually mentions that he’s “really involved in helping to liberate a small country.” Uh, ok.

-Here’s our first look at A Royal Night out with Emma Watson.

Madonna Falls at the BRITs

Madonna took a nasty tumble while performing at the BRITs last night, but she shook it off like a pro.

-Meanwhile, Madonna reads your comments on her Instagram but she won’t deign to engage with them.

-Today in deep thoughts: George Clooney wrote a NYT op-ed on “Sudan’s rape of Darfur.”

-Lupita got got?! Someone reportedly stole Lupita Nyong’o‘s $150k pearl-encrusted Oscar dress from her hotel room.

-Celeb memoirs aren’t really my jam, but Drew Barrymore’s should be good.

Kanye West hab a sadz. He broke down in tears when talking to the BBC about his late fashion professor.

-God, I love that Orlando Jones is such an unabashed shipper.

-Whoa. Drake is making up 42% of the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip Hop songs chart right now.

FKA twigs and Robert Pattinson looked really cute together at the BRITs.

Julianne Marguiles says wearing wigs on The Good Wife saves the show money. No doubt. Those wigs are terrible.

-I know I keep harping on this but Empire’s ratings rose for the seventh week in a row and this just never happens.

-Here’s everything we know so far about True Detective Season 2.

-Is there anything better than Sam Rockwell dancing? I don’t think there is, which is why Flight Facilities’ new video is so great. I love him so hard.

-According to family members, Amanda Bynes is doing well. Steady on, girl.

-Sweet: NPR Music is streaming the new Purity Ring album.

-The new While We’re Young trailer is trying to be all charming and trick me into wanting to see it, but then I have to remind myself that I almost walked out of Noah Baumbach‘s last movie three times.

-Speaking of trailers, here’s the first one for The Riot Club. This one got crazy good buzz at TIFF.

Madonna Shrugs Off Lada Gaga Feud Rumours

madonna rolling stone

Madonna‘s new Rolling Stone cover has leaked, in which she dismisses rumours of a feud with Lady Gaga as “quite boring.”

-Do yourself a favour and read the Hollywood Reporter’s interview with Friday Night Lights’ Kyle Chandler, because it’s pure gold. The part where he revealed he’s a volunteer fireman actually gave me an honest-to-goodness case of the vapors. And then he drove the reporter to the airport and my womb exploded.

Jamie Dornan’s camp denies he’s trying to get out of the sequel, but I’m still side-eyeing that statement.

-The Parks and Rec finale was good, not great. (I was actually a tiny bit bummed about April’s resolution, which felt very OOC for her.) What was great were the ratings, the show’s highest in three years. Also great? The Guardians of the Galaxy easter egg. And the entire cast singing Lil’ Sebastian on Seth Meyers‘ show. (I’m pretty sure Garry and April making out just launched a thousand fanfics…)

-In news that somehow manages to seem both surprising and inevitable, Lady Gaga has joined the cast of American Horror Story.

Dakota Johnson’s SNL promos are actually pretty funny. I like that she’s mocking her now infamous red carpet interview with her mom. And she proved she has comedy chops in Ben & Kate.

Lindsay Lohan thinks her acting is such a gift to society that it should be counted against her community service hours.

The Duff’s blooper reel is life.

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck got flirty at the Oscars and everyone’s brain exploded.

Taylor Swift wore a dress last night that looks like a classier version of my prom dress. True story.

Conan and Billy Eichner joined Grindr last night. Not as funny as when he joined Tinder with Dave Franco, but still solid.

-Whoa. Someone managed to convince Jessica Chastain and Emily Blunt to join the next Huntsman movie?

-Congrats to Glee’s Naya Rivera and husband Ryan Dorsey, who are expecting their first child.

-Surprising news I just learned about TV shows that I still have no interest in watching: Danny Strong (aka Buffy’s Doyle) co-created Empire, and Penn Badgley plays Uma Thurman’s boyfriend on The Slap (which might be the worst-reviewed new show of the season).

-Speaking of TV, this doesn’t bode well for renewal: Agent Carter’s season finale fell to new lows in the ratings.

-Marvel is going to announce “something big” surrounding the Avengers and RDJ in eight days…supposedly.

-Breaking Bad creator (and former X Files writer) Vince Gilligan would “love to be involved” in whatever sort of X Files revival Fox is planning. How great would that be?!

-Somehow, this weekend’s Canadian Screen Awards managed to snag Julianne Moore as a presenter.

-They’ve released the last trailer for Insurgent — and it’s the first one that makes me actually want to see this movie.
